5 May 2009 – Tour Guide

Ann & Mick arrived late Sun night from New Zealand and flew back to Ireland tonight. They stayed in the interesting Scarlett Hotel with an unusual tap in the ladies’ room. Mon, we visited Chinatown, MRT to Vivocity, light rail to Sentosa, cable car to Mr Faber, walked downhill to 5 Temenggong Road, bus to the SIN River and walked the colonial heritage trail (Raffles Statue, Victoria Hall, ACM, Old Supreme Court, City Hall, St Andrew’s Cathedral, Raffles Hotel), had a drink at New Asia Bar (71-72th floor of the Swissotel), walked to Esplande via CityLink and dined at Makansutra.

Today at the URA, Thian Hock Temple at Telok Ayer, taxi to Little India passing by MICA Building, Central Fire Station, Armenian  Church. CHIJMES, Church of the Good Shepherd. Unfortunately we could not get into the McNally Gallery at the new LaSalle College of Art but his ‘Chuan’ is in the Intercontinental Hotel and a drink there was well-deserved. Hope that Ann & Mick will get their rest on their 14hrs flight back to Ireland. It was such fun having them here for their 1st SIN visit and thank you for Genesis Fine Art of Molly Malone, #3562.

Hopefully will get some rest on my flight; at the airport to catch the Wed 0630hrs flight to HKG. Happy Bday to cousin Wilki WONG in Hawaii

In Dublin’s fair city where the girls are so pretty, I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone…

3 May 2009 – Ann & Mick Kiely

Thank you to Doris and her son Natty Nat for a delicious lunch in celebration of HimSuan & Karl’s 9th anniversary.

Ann and I attended Mr Quinlan’s Latin tuition in Dublin, 1965. Tonight she & her husband Mick will be arriving and looking forward to seeing them. We have kept in contact over the years and it will be fun showing SIN off during their 2 days visit. The last time we met was in 2004, at Brother Joseph McNally’s (1923-2002) Inauguration of Counsellor II, a bronze sculpture erected by the people of SIN in his memory (last row 1st picture: Mick, Brendan Lyons SIN 1st Irish Ambassador, myself & Ann).

The sculpture measuring 2.9m is situated on the grounds of the National Museum of Ireland-Country Life in Co Mayo, Ireland is a tribute to all the Irish De La Salle Brothers who by their life work in SIN have helped to transform SIN from a 3rd World to a 1st World country.

I know that the arts are an expression of spiritual values – Brother Joseph McNally

Labour Day

1 May 2009 – Cheers to Labour Day & Enjoy!

Labour Day is an annual holiday celebrated all over the world that resulted from the labour union movement, to celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers. The majority of countries celebrate Labour Day on 1 May and it is popularly known as May Day and International Workers’ Day. The USA Labor Day falls on the 1st Mon in Sep.

Labour Day commemorates the struggle for an eight-hour working day. New Zealand workers were among the first in the world to claim this right when, in 1840, the carpenter Samuel Pernell won an eight-hour day in Wellington. Report of 1st Labour Day- 1890.

Need to edit the Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike PowerPoint presentation for the HKG Royal Geographical Society as I have to cut 15mins of it. Would like to make a toast on this Labour Day with a new gift, a pair of exquisite Goebel’s Artis Orbis (Artists of the world) mouth-blown champagne glasses. Does Gustav Klimt’s print of the sensuous Kiss paints the bestower and the recipient of the gift too?

You must remember this
A kiss is still a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by
And when two lovers woo
They still say, ‘I love you’ – Louis Armstrong
