3 May 2018 – April Showers Bring May Flowers

Tue: Happy May Day, Labour Day and ode Spring after a cold dark stormy wet night – April Showers bring May flowers. Quite a contrast here with flowers from the tropics, but all flowers are beautiful and all
Flowers are restful to look at. They have neither emotions nor conflicts – Sigmund Freud

Today is a public holiday here in Norway and only a few places are opened. A trip to the nursery for #6 to choose some seeds to be planted. Good selection of seeds, outdoor furniture and service here. Could not resist getting this frog NOK249 S$40 for the family to place in their balcony for measuring rainfall, especially today!!

Such irresistible beautiful colourful flowers but managed to fight the temptation today! Rhododendron, Calla-Lily, Campanula Bellflowers and Impatiens – having worked in a flower shop (one of my favourtie summer jobs) in Tromsø many moons ago still gives me the advantage for knowing and remembering the names of these non-tropic flowering plants.

Another location opened today is Baker Hanson and a cup of hot cappuccino hit the spot on this cold wet day – my regular hang-out joint for their baked-goods, salads and with a tagline, nesten som hjemme=just like home is as good as you can get. There are at least 25branches here in OSL. Coincidentally, Ellen just mentioned a few days ago that Baker Hansen crossed her life’s journey path.

Yummy omelette to start the day, first time tasted it baked in a muffin-pan made by #6. Checked out the new À L’aise, with their Danish chef Ulrik Jepsen who has experiences from known Michelin***restaurant. It was closed today and also probably not within my budget! Home-made Lemon-Grass-Chicken was on my dinner menu!

Wed: today the white blossoms are in full bloom in town, not long ago the roads were white with snow and soon they will be white again, not with snow but with all these blossoms when its time for the leafs to take over.

Perfect weather and temps for an hour walk to OsloS and with billboards – Ett tog erstatter 600 biler=One train replaces 600cars, am more than happy to walk, especially when I can stop by Freia to pick up a few pieces of my favourite chocolate. Appreciations to Evy for taking time to meet, has been 40yrs ago since we last met!! Had a good time catching up and reminiscing about our Tromsø days where we crossed path at the Music School there&then.
The cherry blossom represents the fragility and the beauty of life. It’s a reminder that life is almost overwhelmingly beautiful but that it is also short. Due to their short bloom time, Sakura blossoms are a metaphor for life itself: beautiful yet fleeting…

Not a Ship of Fools but a Bus Of Fools: a foreign worker, his wife+a screaming toddler with the woman sitting next to me trying to teach these ppl how to bring up their toddler! At the same time, a man walked down from the upper deck complaining that there were ppl standing on the upper deck!
He somehow tapped his card more than he should, still complaining about the ppl standing and arguing with the poor driver who tried to tell that he had to go to an MRT Sta to explain the situation as the bus driver was unable to reverse what was charged. He just kept complaining relentlessly and holding a line at the stop where ppl were trying to get on. Eventually the driver had to tell him to get off the bus.

Mon: glad to leave these barricades, constructions and mess behind. Also quite prepared that there will be some dust within my 4walls when I return. Doing my best to cover up the place, but dust will be dust and gets everywhere unless things are sealed. These are the stuff on and with me the next 6months, will manage fine as there are 2bags in storage, one in Norway and another in the US.

Someone have commented and asked why have I stopped rating my eating experiences with*****What
TGIF – time to get some thoughts together for packing and closing up the 4walls here in SIN for the next 6months.

Lunch@TanglinClub and dinner with Hong,

To those who were unable to be there, sorry to miss y’all and see you end of the year! Thank you Yoshie for my favourtie sake, made by her uncle from their hometown’s clear mountain spring water and rice from their own paddy-field.

Walking thru’ some back alleys reminded me of an incident about 20yrs ago when I first returned to work in SIN. Was meeting up with Leo&Co at the bowling ally@Katong. Early as usual and saw a sign for Massage and thinking what a wonderful idea to have one! Asked them if there was an available slot for me then…

At CC and appreciations to Estella for hosting TequilaNight+beef, chicken&pork quesadillas and to Calvin for the prawns&octopus – chips and dips by me. Tequila likes these should be taken neat. It is made from the agave plant (not related to cacti or Aloe as thought by many, including myself!) in the state of Jalisco/Mexico. How much is too much – no menos de tres, no mas de seis = no less than 3, no more than 6 is the conventional Mexican wisdom!

Thu: amazing how organizing&filing a few months of paper-work for 1per can take up nearly a whole day! Can’t imagine what it would be like to have to do this for more than 1per. Thank goodness for a decent wholesome meal of rice, chicken-curry, veggies, coconut-juice+the tender flesh costing less than S$6 in my hood and is less than 5mins walk away.
Even more amazing considering that I paid S$5.90 for cup of ice kopi kosong ie, plain black coffee@Merci Marcel/Tiong Bahru just a week ago!

Fri: TGIF and it is Good Fri today – must have been confused with all that paper-work from yesterday, thought it was Thu. Up dark and early at the wet-market and had my porridge breakfast.
