More Awards & Banquet/2023

29 May 2023 – A Rainy Memorial Day Weekend

Thu: another lovely swim&lunch by the pool. Take-out ChineseDinner(AmericanChinese!)for the family from ChinaKing@MurrayLanding. The owner still remembers me from since they opened~10+yrs ago when their little boy was running around – now he is 15, no longer the little boy but a young man helping with his parents’ business.

#2 SeniorAwards’Night where she received the EducationFoundationScholarship(presented by Linn), CongressmanJoeWilsonAward, YellowJacketClubScholarship, IB-SeniorDipoma – nice to see her receiving one of her awards from her mother, so very proud of her. The evening ended with dessert@Sonic. Disappointed with the pix from the camera, must be doing something wrong to get blurry pix! Will keep to taking pix with the phone, especially for the indoors evening lights!

Fri: fried rice with left over foods for some of the flock who came for dinner. Nice evening walk with Linn in the neighbourhood. Borrowed 2books for this quiet MemorialDayWeekend. Linn will be working@FollyBeach and the rest of the family with their dad, grandmother+aunt&family at some cabin in Saluda,NC. Hopefully will get to organize&store some of the stuff under the staircase now that there are some boxes to pack them in.

Sat: has been raining relentlessly since I woke up, and looks like a wet weekend here. No worries when #4, the 8thGrader received her Varsity-Pin at today’s Track-Banquet and she already made Varsity-Cross-Country last season.

Standing tall in her heels(nearly 6′ and she has no issues wearing those 4″heels!), she is making this grandmother beam with pride&joy who still remembers vividly caring for this adorable sweet baby the first 2weeks of her life.

The easiest new-born(2009) baby I have cared for – up to today, she still likes her food&sleep, and not a fussy eater.

Sun: taking these quiet wet days to reflect, arrange some flowers, compose a graduation note&wrap her gift for #2. Too emotional and lost for words about all my amazing grand children – going to be a busy week ahead with HighSchoolGraduation. Made a box for #5 as he is good at folding these complicated paper cranes with his nimble fingers. Hopefully will be able to string them from the ceiling to floor when this sedge of cranes are ready to take flight!

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart ― Helen Keller

Mon: looks like a lovely day to dry out the the wet grounds from the weekend rains. Those marking the MemorialDay today, take time to reflect on what this day is about.

https://www.campbellrivermirror.com/obituaries/tin-cheong-lam/ Condolences to cousins Klaus,Susannah,Shawn,Edith,Brenna(Canada) for the passing of their father,father-in-law,grandfather, LAM TinCheong/Danny(1931-2023) – may he now RIP. Last pix from Klaus of him was on his 92ndBday(Jan2023). Fond memories of 15th uncle when I visited him&the family on Vancouver-Island in 2008. Then his visit with some of the LAM TinYue’s branch in 2014 and a few more visits in SIN with Susannah. https://amylamsg.com/2014/10/20/uncle-from-canada/

Deepavali 2022

25 Oct 2022 – Plan 75

Sat: scheduled for 4thCovidVac/2ndBooster, have done 3doses of Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty and was wanting the Moderna/SpikevaxBivalent, but was not aware that this clinic across the road did not have what I wanted – rescheduled to another location for next week.

Three of my favourite grand-daughters #1,2&4 – their mother titled this pix Two teens and a college girl. Pix credits to Linn. SeniorYearHomecoming2022-SC/USA for #2, pix credits to LinnSeniorYearHomecoming1992-FL/USA for her parents, really 30yrs ago!!!

Sun: neighbours from the block across is ready for Deepavali tomorrow. They have changed their usual annual lights to lanterns – nice change. Do appreciate living in SIN HDB’s multi-racial environment where all the different festivals are and can be celebrated&marked with respect&peace.

Mon: Happy Deepavali to all celebrating – tkx to Helen for pix from last week’s walk,

Appreciations for some of these yummy snacks. Would be suicidal for me to walk down this part of SerangoonRd and LittleIndia during this festival despite that they are the best lights(to my eyes) of all the festivals&seasons lights display here. Usually not in SIN around Oct-Nov, but have not been out of SIN since Oct2019. Blog postings from previous years show the different lights from the different years.

David SifryKhalzuri Yazid

10Nov2015: managed to get some light pix there since I returned early Nov then!

Tue: Joint Testing and Vaccination Centre/JTVC-PasirRis – in and out punctually according to rescheduled-appt with 15mins observation time. No strenuous or vigorous exercises for the next 2weeks, not that I do much of those kind of exercises!

Have not step into a cinema for ~3-4yrs, tkx Gel for movie last week and do not even remember when I was last@Cathay and now one of The Projector/PictureHouse.

Being there on a weekday and non public holiday before 1800hrs is fantastic, like being in your own private cinema+SeniorDiscount for me.

Found a nice quiet spot to have our picnic-dinner – peaceful to practically hear our own voices@DhobyGhautAmphitheatre despite not being on stage.

Voluntary euthanasia – interesting&thought provoking. Healthy living, mindful eating – Japan has nailed super-aging. But in an ageing society with a surge in fatal crimes against the elderly, the government has approved and implemented Plan 75 – voluntary euthanasia. Cash gifts, promises of dying in a 5-star resort, and going on your own terms – it’s all too good to be true.  But for individuals like 78-year-old cleaner Michi and immigrant Filipino caretaker Maria, the reality is not so black and white.

PLAN 75 captures a chilling, callous and very real future for us all – but it also captures some of the most beautiful moments of what being truly alive means.

Will be opening a can of never-ending crawling worms if I start on this subject, so just leave it at being one who is pro-choice where my own life is concerned! The reality is that nothing is black&white and there are countless objective&subjective pros&cons+red-tapes to be taken into consideration.

I believe that decisions about the timing and manner of death belong to the individual as a human right. I believe it is wrong to withhold medical methods of terminating life painlessly and swiftly when an individual has a rational and clear-minded sustained wish to end his or her life – AC Grayling

Drive From North-East On The RedDot

28 Sep 2022: Netflix Thai Cave Rescue(6episodes)

Sun:  Happy National Daughters Day(pix from 1986CA,USA). 11yrs ago in 2011 with 1st-born@38thOkra Strut,SC,USA and today@49thOkra Strut,SC,USA – congratulations to #2 MissYellowJacket&HerCourt, pix credits to her mother.

Tkx to Calvin for DimSum lunch@PeachGarden,ThompsonPlaza pix credits to Helen; must be one of the biggest single shoe on display in this shoe-shop here.

Appreciations to Helen for introducing SlowBakes@TzuChiHumanisticYouthCentre 慈济人文青年中心 new for me&pleasantly located by YishunPondPk, not to be confused to the 14hectre YishunPk which is connected by an 84meter elevated bridge to YishunPondPk or YishunPond with a large pond that serves as a recreational spot for residents and doubles as a water catchment area. Water from the pond is used in the irrigation system of KhooTeckPuatHospital.

Appreciations for scenic-joy-ride driven by Calvin with Helen guiding, she lives in Punggol, thus knows this area around the North. An enjoyable drive back to the East side from the North of the island – would have taken me nearly 2hrs on the bus! Safe journeys to Bill back to Switzerland.

YishunDama.k.a. SeletarDam is used to separate the fresh water of LowerSeletar Reservoir from the salt water in the JohoreStrait.  Background of JenalJetty – Said to be the Last Fishing Village in SIN!?

https://cavinteo.blogspot.com/2013/04/entering-jenal-jetty-near-yishun-dam.html

Mon: @SGH – tests from all the recent procedures done are now cleared, hopefully will not need to be for more than the usual follow&check-ups for the rest of the year, considering that I have had 7appts here in Sep! Can now start getting the bed linen ready and look forward for May&fam to arrive from Norway this weekend, but not looking forward to the F1 to be causing inconveniences where road closures are concerned and will be keeping my distance from the areas in&around the F1 circuit.

Tue: what you see is just a perspective and not the whole truth; also it is not an optical illusion, but looks like one!! Amazing when one can get a shot(not my pix, downloaded) at the right angle&time, with or without photoshopping. Somehow, I can relate with the hole in the stomach lately – hahaha! And as GeorgeBernardShaw said about illusion

The single biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Wed: most will remember the rescued from the Tham Luang Nang Non Cave in ChiangRai Province in northern Thailand(Jun-Jul2018). Netflix/LimitedSeries has just released Thai Cave Rescue(6episodes) and it is well worth the watch. Had to also watch Ron Howard’s Amazon Original film, Thirteen Lives(2022), the National Geographic’s The Rescue(2021), and have kept my eyes&thoughts glued to the screen. Probably would not been able to watch if the ending was a tragedy, being more a follower of feel good movies and am surely in need of those.

What is so inspiring+touching and restored some positive thoughts about humanity&mankind for me from this incident is that over the course of 2weeks, thousands of volunteers, military specialists&corporate experts of all race&religion arrived from around the world to offer assistance in the rescue. Here is where how decent humanity trumps over adversity.

Thanksgiving & Black Friday 2020

28 Nov 2020 – Tropical Thanksgiving Spread

Wed: more grocery shopping@PP-ColdS&NTUC, bringing some of the foods to CC for tomorrow’s spread. Without a car&help, have to make a few trips over a few days for grocery if a spread is in mind and the mind is willing but the body is another story!

Thu: Happy Thanksgiving – whether you are celebrating or not, one should always give thanks to all our blessings. No usual turkey or BeaujolaisNouveau2020 with the family, but thinking about them and still enjoy different foods with friends.

Not quite your traditional Thanksgiving spread, but a Tropical-Thanksgiving spread for CC staff. BBQ PorkRibs, SpicyChickenSauages, SmokedDuck, RoastChicken by ColdStorage with fresh-produce+dip and Physalis/ChineseLanternBerries which most of CCstaff have not tasted. PengHann did not like it. The spread was served on banana-leaf, being decoratively eco-friendly.

Pix credits to Helen. Tkx to Henry for his yummy spinach casserole. Laptop is acting up and it is so very frustrating, will probably need to edit this&future posts! According to my high-tech guru, its time for a new machine. How can it be when I bought this one less than 3yrs ago!!

Andy getting the bottle ready for me to cork it, go figure it out – hahaha. Christmas gift to CC if I can finish it on time!

Fri: started this BlackFriday with mask shopping for #1-6@Bedok,

MRT-SGH for thyroid ultrasound. Had to first collect paper from Blk9 and then headed to Blk2. Was there earlier than the appointed time and no wait, in and out in less than 30mins.

Chinatown Point: not sure what this gigantic dim-sum display is about? Must ask Victor about it. A new joint to try.

Discovered another one of these old-time snacks, Munch with the forte on candies. Not being a fan of candies, did not get any. Saw these bags in Daiso and was actually thinking of ordering them online, but of course more expensive – happy to find them there. How can I resist the DurianShavedIce@MeiHeongYuen when it is next door to Daiso!

Having some problems with breathing with mask on, decided to take a short break by the ToothRelicTemple, nice and quiet hardly any one around with a breeze to calm the soul. Like that there is no one around, but can’t help feeling sorry for all the businesses around.

YueHwa: has been quite some time ago since I set foot inside this building. Needed to pick up a bottle of Shaoxing-HuaTiew/紹興花雕酒S$31 for Theresa&ChengJun as a thank-you gift for the HairyCrabs invites. Tired to tell Les that this building was the hotel where one of our uncles (father’s cousin) was found dead here in the 1940s!

HairyCrabs are still in season, wanted the cute cooler bag, but not for sale unless you buy the crabs. Could not resist it, bought 1crabS$31.96 and a small bottle of the wineS$9.10 as a reminder of this 2020 HairyCrabsSeason. Literally shopped till I dropped today.

泰福楼Tai Fu Lou (Northeast Chinese Cuisine) SIN exclusive specialty paper wrapped fish 特色纸包鱼餐厅. Finally got to try it and It was OK – perhaps after wanting to try for such a long time, the expectations might have built up too much.

Sat: really had problems cooking this cute little crab after hearing his discreet rapping sounds. 15-20mins in hot boiling water and he was the most delicious breakfast I have ever had.

With BlackFriday&Thanksgiving behind and sooo behind with Christmas mailing as the mood is not quite there yet! With todays circumstances, the mood might not even get there!! Watching these feathered friends in the cool wet weathers can be relaxing or am I just procrastinating or fooling my lazy self??? A long afternoon nap which made me even more lethargic.

Sat28Nov2020: WorldOmeter of COVID-19 deaths are as follow:

SIN/pop 5.6+mil in an area of 721SqKm – 29
SC/USA/pop 5+mil in an area of 82, 932SqKm – 4,346

From The Baroque Mood

27 Mar 2018 – To The Durian Mood 🙂

Sat: the passing tropical rains were heavy in the early afternoon on the bus heading to TanjongPagar. Thank goodness they ceased by the time I had to get off and walk the short distance to TP Centre.

Leng was caught at SBG and could not attend but she had just as much fun listening to the rhythm of the falling rains – rain pix credits to her.

A pleasant Baroque afternoon listening to these young musicians (students of Christine Gan) performing Bach under interesting acoustic in the open. Poor cellist was sweating away, can’t imagine what it feels like for those boys in their smartly dressed suits!

Sim Keng Boon/piano, Lo Khin Marn/viola, Dale Henderson/cello. Lee Yan Chang/piano played the Arioso from Cantata BWV 156 and strangely enough that piece has been in my mind the past week before I knew that it is in the program.

Tkx to Unni for the memories of this pix from the 1970s Baroque evening performance by the TromsøMusikkonservatoriet@Ishavskatedralen/TheArcticCathedral with a harpsichord and under a much different acoustic. Music will always be a part of me, considering that I started playing the piano at 5, studied music and taught music…

Sun: enjoying Hollywood in Vienna concert on TV/Channel5 this morning. Such a lovely cheerful pick-me up way for me to start the day on this lazy drizzly Sun morning – pix downloaded.

Brought lunch from BkMerahView to sis-in-law as she is not too mobile after a heart procedure and her fall. Late dinner@328KatongLaksa. Wanted durian for dessert, but they were sold out on EastCoastRd.

Walked to TanjongKatongRd and out of the 3stalls here, only 1 still had some. Real SIN food – a bowl of SIN laksa&durian, shiok (Slinglish term I use only for SIN food) thru’&thru’. This combination of the laksa spices+durian can be too potent for ppl with weaker stomach as I discovered the following day. Felt the rumbling stomach after the durian, so rushed home to drink plenty warm water to flush out the system and was OK. Clem had upset stomach in the early morning hours and had to get meds for it.

Mon: no matter how strong a stomach, had to give it a rest today!

Tue: do not usually bother taking pix of rude ppl on the bus, but somehow today since I was sending a msg on the phone, decided to click this and the moment after doing so, she did put her feet down. Perhaps if we keep taking pix of such ppl, they might get embarrassed enough to put their feet down, or it is just wishful thinking from my side?? Well, at least one can choose to look the other way to the lovely bougainvillea blooms and the amazing sky than getting annoyed!

With HS&Richard – good to catch up with R who is here from Sydney visiting his mom (99). Tkx for yummy dim-sum lunch@ImperialTreasures/Ion. According to R and so true too, we have known each other since we were kids and are comfortable to be at ease to say what is really in our minds without feeling that the other will be offended or slighted. This always make an enjoyable get- together. A journey is best measured in friends – not in miles.

Lovely wet late afternoon and evening – tkx for dinner at Jo’s.

iLight Marina Bay 2018

23 Mar 2018 – TGIF In The Twilight Zone!

Wed: officially it is the 1st day of Spring today, but looks like the Groundhog is still seeing its shadow in many countries. Pix credits to Carlo/Norway, Nancy/VA-USA and Carmel/Ireland (where I have lived for over a decade in every 3countries, which are also home to me), all taken in the past few days! Ppl in here, take care, stay warm and be safe. Hang in there – Spring is just around the corner!

6th iLight, a display of light features have been designed with energy-saving lighting or made from environmentally-friendly or recycled materials. Do enjoy these lights and will take time to admire them when possible. MilkBottleCows by BP Loh/SIN.

LightPlay by School of ArtDesign&Media, NTU/SIN, Passage by SergeMahen/Canada, TransistablePlastic by Luzinterruptus/Spain, DancingGrass by Yuree&SiyoungKim/S Korea. Only in SIN can you find cows grazing in the grass and going thru’ twilight-zone 🙂

Thu: SIN/Changi Airport has been voted the World’s Best Airport by air travellers at the 2018 World Airport Awards for the 6th consecutive year. I, for one like this airport as it is 20mins/.87cents bus-ride from my SIN-home! Pix of T4 from recent trip to HKG.

FB privacy breach is in the headlines today and some ppl are deleting their FB accounts, cousin Karen for one and will miss her when she finally gets her account deleted. To delete or not to delete – too much trouble, easier to remove Apps and post less!

A good one here for all the fuss with Big Data. My passport is in order for me to disappear off social-media if & when I choose to.

Dinner@SoupRestaurant/SuntecCityMall which has relocated but still in Suntec since my last visit. Yummy dark chocolate ice-cream@DarkGallery/MilleniaWalk – a paradise for chocolate ice-cream fans like myself! and one of the few locations still open at 2130hrs.

Stumbled onto some trendy chair designs displays in the open-space concept.

Fri: The Leisure Seeker****wanting to escape their grown children and doctors’ suffocating care, Ella and John go on a cross-country journey in their vintage camper, which they christen The Leisure Seeker. Their road trip takes them from Massachusetts to Key West, during which they recapture the passion that they have for life and their love for one another.

Enjoyed Helen Mirren & Donald Sutherland here who have much to say about old age with a powerful and sensible ending – a situation close to my choice as to how this life’s journey in my own TwilightZone should end!

Last stop on a long journey, as yet another human being returns to the vast nothingness that is the beginning and into the dust that is always the end – The Twilight Zone by Rod Serling

2017 Happy Thanksgiving

24 Nov 2017 – Cantonese Proverbs

Mon: anyone who knows me also know spoken Chinese/Cantonese in-spite of being my mother’s tongue is very limited! Found this fantastic link with Cantonese proverbs including explanation and how to say them, but am wondering why mainly with reference to ghosts??

Having such fun with this link – proverbs are short&profound that they catch my attention and interest. Wish that there are equivalent links for the English and Norwegian languages too.

https://writecantonese8.wordpress.com/2014/02/25/cantonese-proverbs-in-one-picture/

41. 放葫蘆 [fong wùh lóu] to throw a gourd=self-boasting, bragging. Do wonder if this one would be equivalent to singlish ya-ya papaya…

Tkx to Jenny&Bill for dropping by. Too lazy&tired to cook lately, just finger-food in the apt, continuing to the neighbourhood’s eatery for dinner. Pix credits to Jenny. Have been dying for durians and since it was the end of the day, got them cheaper and they were yummy.

Tue: loving these heavy morning downpours. Appreciations to Embassy of Ireland for the invite@The Projector to an educational&interesting screening of a documentary –John Hume in America: In the name of Peace. Anyone living in Ireland and was old enough to understand cannot forget 30Jan1972 Bloody Sunday.

Catching up with more old&new Irish friends

Trying out a new Irish brew with finger-snacks!

Wed: the best breakfast for yesterday and today – yummy durians!

Thu: Happy Thanksgiving/USA and there is sooo much to be thankful for. A bottle of Beaujolais Nouvea 2017 for old-times’ sake as I do not know of anyone who celebrates Thanksgiving here in SIN. Linn&Jeff, Katy, Ellie, John Sophie&James, May&Bjørn+Olai are always in my heart&mind. And to all my US families&friends – enjoy your turkey, feeling blessed to have y’all trotting&crossing my path.

https://amylamsg.com/2016/11/25/thanksgiving-2016/

Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.

Coco*****Despite his family’s baffling ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming a musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets Hector and together, they set off on a journey to unlock the real story&mystery behind the family history. Fri: Am still learning that you are never too old to learn. The day you stop learning will also be the day you are no longer 🙂 TGIF and also I can now officially start with the Christmas preparations! Happy&Safe shopping on this Black Friday.

IMG_1230IMG_1227

Tkx to niece May/Patricia for a wonderful evening@EsplanadeTheater with the production of  Ninagawa Macbeth*****with  amazing symbolic stage-settings and beautiful colourful costumes. This definitely is not your usual Shakespeare Macbeth! Did not know what to except and was pleasantly surprised with Ninagawa’s adaptations. The only problem was with the wordy and fast subtitles on both left&right – could not fully focus with the acting on the stage, thus missing out some of the drama.

IMG_1214IMG_1213IMG_1207

After the earlier heavy downpours, the evening turned out to be perfect outdoors and a good time to have an alfresco bite@Makansutra. Could have danced and walked all night outdoors in this kind of temps, but alas did not bring either dancing or walking shoes and caught the last bus back to the EastSide.

Good Over Evil

22 Oct 2017 – Knowledge Over Ignorance

Sat: Congratulations to Zai for the marriage of her only daughter Syazana to Mohamad Nazrin.

Tkx for a lovely lunch reception to Zai/mother and Hariz/brother of the beautiful bride@Novotel/Clarke Quay. Did not seem that long ago when Syazana&Hariz were just kids, now both married and Hariz is going to be a father in Dec!

Aisha&son Daniel (Aisha was pregnant with him when we were @MarinaHouse-1999 which does not exist now!), tkx to Aileen&Alan for the ride to&from to the hotel; Irene&daughter Phyllis who was one of my piano-students 15yrs ago.

Good to catch up with Peggy (classmate and friend from 1962/CHIJ), Carol, Francis, X-colleagues from H&H.

Entertaining evening@SOTA to celebrate its 10Anniversary, Sing’theatre presents Forever Young***a hilarious musical.

It is 2067 and a nursing home houses a group of actors who were previously pillars of the SIN arts scene. Looked after by their no-nonsense nurse, Sister Sara…

Let’s dance in style, let’s dance for a while
Heaven can wait we’re only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever
We don’t have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music’s for the sad men

Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders we’re getting in tune
The music’s played by the mad men

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone
Why don’t they stay young

It’s so hard to get old without a cause
I don’t want to perish like a fading horse
Youth’s like diamonds in the sun,
And diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn’t happen today,
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
Oh let them come true

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever, or never – Alphaville

https://genius.com/Alphaville-forever-young-lyrics

Certainly do NOT want to live forever but as long as there is life in me, I will do my best to be young at heart and live it to the fullest 🙂 No matter how young at heart, did not make it to the hunt for Orionid Meteor Showers (01.00hrs). When age catches up, sleep is the priority!

IMG_0236IMG_0236aSun: wow! tkx for all your over-whelming ‘Likes’ and nice comments in FB for my latest profile pix. Might even like it more if you can read what is written on the chair 🙂

Must let YeeJit know what a good photographer he is. Sunday dinner@Jo’s.

This ordeal has been stressful for the whole family. Thank you and appreciations to all for your gracious support with kind messages and words – Good over Evil prevails for this Deepavali Festival. There are no doubts in me that my bro is good&kind and would be cleared, but it is sad and unfortunate that there are ppl out there who are mean and envious.

Mozart And Beyond

20 Oct 2017 – Deepavali/Dewali

Tue: inspection of gas riser by HDB. Nice quiet day of catching up with things to do around the 4-walls within! Dinner@Jo’s.

Wed: Happy Deepavali/Diwali from SIN to Balakrishnan & Mohan/SIN, Deepak/Nepal, Samarpita/Switzerland, Burhan & Ranjana/USA and to all who are celebrating this festival.

Celebrating one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism that spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance.

Little India in SIN where one can really enjoy the diversities of these festivals with such beautiful&festive lights, colours, foods, etc. Pix taken when showing PuiAh&YeeJit around who were fortunate enough to be visiting around this time when both the Deepavali/Little India and Mid-Autumn/Chinatown lights are on.

Tkx to niece&nephew for helping with all these shopping and ferrying them back up 7floors! Induction cooker (S$40) if gas should run out half way when cooking!! Did not like it, will be returning it. Should have enough toiletries, etc to last for the rest of the year!

Tkx to Hong for an enjoyable evening@VictoriaConcertHall and it has been quite sometime ago since being inside this concert hall.

Mozart and Beyond with re:Sound Chamber Orchestra, pix credits to Resound Collective for the interior shot.

Conductor Lim SoonLee, SIN-born piano soloist MelvynTan with in interesting performance of JonathanDove’s An Airmail Letter from Mozart.

Vietnamese supper@quán ăn việt nam***JooChiat Rd.

Thu: do need the next few days to really work on the TEDx speech and how do sum up an Off The Beaten Path life journey to hold the attention of an audience of boarding school students for 15mins??? Tkx to Audrey for her tips.

Was planning to end my speech with the below Chinese idiom, but perhaps it is not so appropriate for school students but more those who have been thru’ more in life –  need some inspiration to re-work on the speech!

井底之蛙 (jǐng dǐ zhī wā) The Frog in the Well as we know it, is a Chinese idiom that refers to a narrow-minded person who doesn’t see the larger world around them. After receiving this gift, it has provoked me to see this idiom in another angle. There is little difference between the frog at the bottom of the well and the one outside if they are living in discontentment. Perhaps it is better to be inside the well if one is happy just looking out to the sky than being outside and unhappy just looking into a dark pitch.

bp_leslie_lam_201017_41

Edited – Fri: such a relief for today’s news even-though I kinda expected it after reading and following his case for a while. Someone evil was out to get him and here is a definite case of good over evil – Happy Deepavali! Being as objective as possible, I know that my bro is a fair and good person and will always try his best to help.

Wed: last night the sky opened up and pour buckets together with the winds. This resulted in some of the tomato plants being destroyed. Rather comfortable sleeping thru’ the howling winds and the rains on the window panes.

Tkx Ingrid for dropping in and for coffee at Bicks. Can never get enough of the fresh apple juice there! The surroundings are rather delightful, especially the tram-line with the old support. Another cafe around the corner from Bicks, but have not had the chance to try yet.

Thu: tkx Mette for the visit. Another glorious day for a short walk in the area. Found a water-melon from Spain and the way the packaging was done reminded me as to how pomelos are packed in SIN. Had to buy it, NOK63, S$10.

Damplassen/Dam Square is a space in the residential area Ullevål Hageby/Ullevål Garden City.  The square got its name in 1918. On the site was previously the so-called Swedish dam, said to have been built by Swedish prisoners of war during the period 1807-1814. Around 1920, a new pond with fountain were built.

Around the square is the Neo-Baroque business and residential buildings in brick. The bakery Åpent Bakeri/Open Bakery’s furnace was built in 1929 and has seen several generations bakers come and go. It is still in use today. Their baked-goods are absolutely to die for. The cherry trees around the pond with picnic benches give a natural nice cozy touch to this space.

M&B previous place is near a road name Sorgenfrigata=Sorrow-free Rd.

Now they are in an area there there is a road name Eventyrveien=Fairytale Rd and sorrow-free, my life must be in La-La-Land 🙂 The apples here are RST – red, sweet&tiny. Now why did they not move to any of these roads with all the temptations to a fairy-tale land? Snow white in the winters and red apples in the summers and somewhere maybe a ginger-bread house too!

Fri: another trip to NAV in the morning and hopefully the last one for this time round! Ugh… paper work and red tape, my less favourite thing on the to do list! An evening trip to IKEA to pick up some sales items. Traffic was bad, the grey and wet weather was not much of a help.

Fairy tales can come true
It can happen to you if you’re young at heart
For it’s hard, you will find
To be narrow of mind if you’re young at heart

You can go to extremes with impossible schemes
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams
And life gets more exciting with each passing day
And love is either in your heart or on it’s way

Don’t you know that it’s worth
Every treasure on earth to be young at heart
For as rich as you are
It’s much better by far to be young at heart

And if you should survive to a hundred and five
Look at all you’ll derive out of bein’ alive
And here is the best part, you have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart

Don’t you know that it’s worth
Every treasure on earth to be young at heart
For as rich as you are
It’s much better by far to be young at heart

And if you should survive to a hundred and five
Look at all you’ll derive out of bein’ alive
And here is the best part, you have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart
