Visitors From Canada And Switzerland

19 Apr 2023 – SpringBreak For US-Flock

Wed: missing my US-flock and it will be unlikely that there will be travels to the US in 2025! Sad with the thought of missing #3John’sHighSchoolGrad. Both body&mind need rest to preserve some energy hopefully to be able to be present in Feb2026 for#1Katy&Jack’s wedding. Appreciation with thanks for these pix from Linn and AlexMcD – all the best for the 129thBostonMarathon on the 250th Anniversary of Patriots’Day, Mon21Apr2025.

They are now enjoying Spring+EasterBreak@GardenCityBeach,SC/USA.

#5 enjoys the beach and his first go at the wheels of this golf-cart bringing back sweet memories from May1986 CatalinaIsland,CA/USA when Linn was chauffeuring us around then at her first go at the wheels of a golf-cart! In the meanwhile, will live vicariously with gratitude&memories from pix shared by family&friends.

Do need at least a day to rest between socials this week.  Finding&gathering some inspiration&motivation energy to create&make something special for the EasterWeekend. The choice between the potato? or the egg?? being Easter these mini-egg-candies wrapped&decorated with ribbons will be the choice for this Easter.

The same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. If you are like the potato, you will become weaker in the face of adversity. If you are like the egg, you will become stronger in the face of adversity.

Despite these beautiful downloaded pix, the mood for Easter is not quite there.

Thu: tkx to Annie&Neo for scrumptious BakKutTeh肉骨茶@HengHeng/OwenRd – first time in this location and

first time tasting BakKutTeh with abalone! Fish+all the other side dishes were delicious. Glad that niece Ai-Ling joined us to meet with her uncle Chai for the first time.

Welcome Bill&Andrea who were supposed to land in T3 and when in T3 discovered that it was changed to T2 – Skytrain from T3-T2 passing by JewelsRainVortex without being@Jewel or T1. Appreciations to Calvin for dinner and to Sam for driving me back to my 4walls.

Fri: must have been tired last night to wake up to lights still on this morning despite being in bed by midnight! GoodFriday, a public holiday here and waking up to sad news about the shooting@UF,FL/USA with 2fatalities&6injuries. Prayers&thoughts are out to all affected.

Sat: safe trip to cousin Chai back to Canada and hopefully he will not wait for another 50yrs for his next visit here. 08.30hrs@MT-market – seldom times but sometimes necessary to get some flowers from my regular flower stall who does not open@0500hrs! Still manageable as long as not enclosed, and perhaps nice to soak in the weekend ambiance crowd once in a while.

Welcome Cousin Chai

15 Apr 2025 – Way To Go Sophie

Sat: proud of #4grandchild Sophie/ClassHistorian, appreciations with thanks for this pix from IrmoHighSchool posting – thought it is her with that long blond hair, zoomed in to recognize the Lams’ features – hahaha!

The student council at Irmo High School just pulled off something extraordinary said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. Their student-driven change has earned them national recognition as a National Gold Council of Excellence, proving that when young people are given the chance to lead, they turn their vision into real-world impact.
Sun: to those celebrating&marking Songkran, the ThaiNewYear/WaterFestival enjoy the new year and to all be safe – pix downloaded. Also blessed PalmSunday to those marking the day.
Welcome cousin Chai from Toronto/Canada back to his roots for a visit. Has been ~50yrs ago since his last visit to SIN and much to catch up. Appreciations with tkx to Les&Ivy and to nieces who made or bought yummy dishes adding to an amazing Sunday dinner. Not only are we born in the same year, we both also like durian – tkx to Clement for that delivery.
Mon: tkx for the visit, Chai wanted to see what it is like to live in public housing. Lunch@59MarineT-Coffeeshop,MeeGorengMamak&ChickenBiryarni – showing how affordable&convenient where it is less than 5mins walk to lunch for 2ppl costing ~S$15 including Coke&coffee.
Believe it or not, but he did not get to see JewelsRainVortex when landed and did not think that there will be time when he takes off early this Sat. Since in the area, his request was to visit the airport being just awarded the best in the world for 2025. Besides the iconic RainVortex/Jewel+Skytrain between T2&T3 with closer view of the RainVortex, there are also KineticRain/T1, Wonderfall/T2,etc. The goal is not to travel the world, but to live in it…
Ended the day on Bus36 dropping him near the RitzCarlton and was hoping for a joyride around the loop back to the EastSide. Hoping is not the same as happening, bus driver was jerking the bus every time he stopped giving me such a headache that I got off @TomlinsonRd to take the MRT from OrchardB-Sta – pix downloaded.
Tue: picked up meds@FarrerPk/Les’s clinic. Appreciations with tkx to cousin ChonWah&Neo for delicious lunch@JiaHeGrandChineseRestaurant first time at this location starting with some delicious&fancy DimSum. Last met with these cousins must have been when cousin Yun visited in Nov2016!
Moist&tasty LondonDuck and PigOrganSoup boiled to perfection.
Do like the ceiling lights at the public dining hall but we had a private room, otherwise will have to protect this yummy freshwater fish garnished with fresh cilantro&finely grated ginger!
While in this area, a short trip to Mustafa to pick up ingredients for Gravlaks

11 Apr 2025 – US-Postal-Service, Epitome of Snail Mail

Tue: an amusing memory from 16yrs ago while the Vesper and a tricycle@MT-Market caught my attention this morning Does anyone know if I can get a tricycle in the colours of this Vesper??
https://amylamsg.com/2009/04/04/how-to-deal-with-todays-youth/

Grocery shopping dark&early and the best time for me to be out taking the rest of the day to get the food cleaned&ready into the fridge&freezer for the week. Not only that grocery bill has gone up, also taking a longer time to get things done – the reality of aging! Tkx to SL for sharing tonight’s dinner and appreciations for dessert, a good day to share when everything is still fresh.

Way to go to #4 racing 2nd leg/800m of DMR@BlazerTwilight/RidgeviewHigh – pix credits to Linn

Bought this Clematis@Walmart May2024 and potted it at Linn’s when the peacocks were around then! Appreciate receiving the latest pix of it today and delighted to see that not it is not only surviving but thriving and hoping the same to my US flock. Will really miss not seeing them this year, especially for #3HighSchoolGraduation but do hope to be there for #1&Jack’sWedding/Feb2026.

Walmart Supercenter – Here-There-Everywhere – This-That-Everything

No idea why? this Bday card to Linn was returned when addressed correctly and it took a month when it was mailed from here and back here! Are tariffs involved Overseas Snailmail too!! Was also told that her friend sent some mail within the state in US and that took a month, sounds like the US-postal-service is the epitome of SnailMail. As US hikes tariffs again, nervous businesses weigh what comes next and if not my US flock+family&friends, would not even want to visit the US!

Wed: last gas replacement 24Dec2022 – expecting that the next replacement should be less than in 2yrs since there are no plans or wish to be travelling…

Appreciations with thanks for this 1stSandwich 2weeks ago from MarineParadeCARE Fridge/46MarineCres and today the 2nd – they were fresh&good.

Thu: QingMing清明/Tomb-Sweeping is now ongoing in this part of the world. In memory of my grandparents,parents+3brothers – pix from 1940s&50s.

Will not be going to the crematorium, but they are never forgotten. NEA has put in place crowd control measures at the columbaria and extend the opening hours to 24hrs daily from 22Mar -20Apr.

Fri: so far, for me it certainly is the best of all airports visited or passed thru’ and as one of the passengers said – it’s an airport you do not mind being delayed or stuck in. Despite having no plans to travel, have lost the number of counts that I am there! Airports somehow makes the feeling of being a passer-thru’ like a visitor, and aren’t we always, always just visitors, just passer-thru?

7 Apr 2025 – Follow-up Appointments

Fri: MRT-TEL-MarineT-OutramPk/Exit6/NDC, underground walk when not rush hour, do not want to risk a panic-attack during rush hour despite that the hospital is just a stone-throw away! If rush hour, will take the Bus16 changing to Bus33-OutramRd and walk to 2ndHospitalAve. Bus196/MarineCres-NewBridgeRd-Stop crossing the overhead bridge to SingHealth/OutramCommHospital-Blk3SGH walking to wherever the appts are, and if possible, not taking the shuttle bus as they usually crowded. Gladly walk these detoured routes to keep my sanity, especially for this week with 3follow-up-appts!

Today on the way back to the EastSide, Bus196 added a new stop on CantonmentRd opp PoliceCantonmentComplex(05539) – saw it under construction when taking a walk with cousin Karen in Jan. Such a pleasure to practically have the bus to myself, hardly stopping as there were no pax at many of the stops now with the MRT-TEL running.

Memories with view from 5TemenggongRd/1940s-50s. The row-houses in front are now TravelLodge/HabourFront, smoking-chimmy/StJamesPowerStation, curved Godown roofs now VivoCity, then PulauBlakangMati/Sentosa now in the far background. Memory lane is the only way to remember not to forget!

Temenggong Road(3) – Here-There-Everywhere – This-That-Everything

Sat catching up with Hannah&Heiko to celebrate his 40Bday before they head off to Osdorf,Schleswig-Holstein/Germany on their one-way-ticket!

Sun: appreciations with thanks to Iyas for Sunday’s scrupulous HalahHomeCooked lunch + a variety of yummy HariRayaCookies.

Amazing view from 44-floor and nice playground in the area. Like the idea when you can rinse your hands on top of the toilet bowl and water can then be used for the toilet – must get one of those when change is needed.  Tkx to Helen for walking with me to find a bus stop to learn that MargaretDr continues to KaySiangRd!

Gazebo now glassed in with AC, will not tempt fate being in there when cigar smoking is ongoing! Tkx for dinner@Rochalie

yummy Champagne+Caviar that Albert bought from his Moscow/Russia trip+SteakAlaRochalie and durian for dessert, tkx to Galdy&Shawn.

3 Apr 2025 – Happy 88Bday Sis Jo

Mon: SelamatHariRaya to those celebrating&marking this public holiday here in SIN. Happy 88Bday sis Jo who is now the eldest of our GreenGen – appreciations with thanks for a scrumptious homemade lunch@Pat&David’s with Luxas/17 and Beth/13.

Tasteful&pretty presentation StrawberryLimeBdayCake by JaniceWong, a SIN artist, chocolatier, chef, and entrepreneur who has won multiple awards for her pastry&edible art – the artist’s palette and the chef’s kitchen are both a playground for creativity.

4Jul2020: do remember one of the most successful gifts was from JaniceWong, edible chocolate crayons+rice paper. Have always wanted to write my own secret message and eat it up. Devon&Eliot have grown and will soon think these kind of gifts are cheesy, but for now, this moment just hit the spot.

Tue: Spring has definitely sprung in the NorthernHemisphere. Pleased to see the Clematis I got for Linn last summer in the US is blooming again. May’s HoneyPlant/HoyaCarnosa is also in bloom/Norway, and somehow despite of the cold winters she manages to get the most amazing results with her GreenThumb – pix credits to Linn&May – not sure if

Linn’s memories are just as intact as mine! with this Mar1978 pix with the HoneyPlant/HoyaCarnosa in the background, remembering having to clean off the honey dripping on the windowsill then! Plant pix downloaded, used to have one like this around the window but not that many blooms, a cutting from EmmaHald, L&M paternal-great-grand-mother. Also known as wax plant, porcelain flower, and honey plant, is a climbing or trailing perennial of the dogbane and milkweed family. It is native to Eastern Asia and Australia. The plant has attractive waxy, oval-shaped leaves and vines that grow 2–4 feet long. Flowers are fragrant and have a white or cream hue. The plant is typically grown as a houseplant and is perfect for both indoor and outdoor settings.

While here am delighted to be able to enjoy the communal MarineCresentKitchenGarden.

Impressive how every living plant is so well-kept – might even be inspired to volunteer to helping!

No April Fool but another appt@NDC for real. Lunch with Clement@IKEA – the festive MiniOndehCake for the RayaSeason hit the spot today. Tasted one of the best coconut flakes covered moist sponge cakes with creamy layers of  GulaMelaka/PalmSugar for real – highly recommended if they are still serving this festive cake in is part of the world!

Wed: 07.15hrs – a sudden strong gust of wind gave these shots despite lasting only for a minute before the first refreshing April rain shower. Expecting&preparing for a muggy&hot afternoon but turned out to be a glorious day.

Lunch with Henry and a serene breezy walk ending with fruits&sundaes@McD/EC-Pk.

Thu: 26yrs ago today bought ~700sqf/69sqm resale-HDB-3room and still content&satisfied with a place to chill&unwind in this 4-walls renovated-studio-apt today!

1999-2000: at a resale price S$175,000/market price S$155,000 and with a 1st-time buyer grant+loan+down-payment, bought it not as an investment but a place as a base to stay in between other places and to keep my stuff here no matter where life will lead…

Unless in financial difficulties, hopefully this will be the final one&only property needed. Now can also sell it back to HDB, not a good deal, but better than no choice – today’s going price is~S$500,000-600,000.

Block No. & Address: Blk 46 Marine Crescent S(440046)
Completion Year: 1975
No. of Floors: 12/109units (65-70sqm)
HDB Tenure: 99-year Leasehold

2000-2005: renovation works were done to this 3-room (ie 2bedrooms, hall/kitchen&bathroom – total floor-area of slightly under 65sqm) slowly but surely as to my taste within my budget. The floor&walls (the only wall is the kitchen-fire-wall which is against regulations to be removed) were the first to be hacked away to make it into a one-room studio apt.

2001-2005: upgrading administrations&works with utility room added, losing one kitchen-window but gaining an extra room. 2005 done with 9-5jobs! and hiking the AT-Thru’Hike was achieved. Today this is a useful store+laundry-room and if necessary can be converted to an extra bedroom

2005-2024: have been away from SIN from 3-6months every year except during Covid and that has worked well for me. 2025 no plans to travel so far…

Geylang Serai 2025

30 Mar 2025 – 7.7Magnitude Myanmar Earthquake

Thu: Bus13 to a fun morning@GeylangSeraiMarket/GeylangRd – less frequented nowadays since most of what is needed can be gotten at the local MT-WetMarket.

GeylangSeraiBazaar/GeylangRd&SimsAve features ~500 stalls including ~150F&B stalls. Delighted to still be able to enjoy looking&soaking in the colourful festivities when possible and without crowds.

Geylang Serai bazaar 2025 till Mar. 31, has items from S$3 at 150 F&B stalls – Mothership.SG – News from Singapore, Asia and around the world

and still learning more about the MalaySettlements&Festivities from these nicely done informative boards on the sidewalk.

SimsAve/PLQ2 where the GPO&PosBank is located – there to get some postage-stamps and a new bankbook since in the area. Remembering what the former GPO/FullertonHotel now is quite a contrast from a limited-corner-size somewhere in the basement of this modern building.

Last there was over a year ago Jan2024 with Peggy who was visiting from Australia and wanted stamps for Ian’s new hobby. GPO@PayaLebar, for both of us who remember quite a different GPO of our childhood days.

Surprise visitor telling me it’s time to turn on the AC when I got back just in time before the rain showers.  The only thing bought today is this beautiful bunch of handmade empty Ketupat wrappings bought from the marketS$4 making perfect decoration to mark HariRayaAidilfitri long weekend – content&happy to be staying on this RedDot. Not sure if its age or otherwise but just have no mood or urge to be travelling! The idea&thought of being in airports, airplanes, crowds, etc are enough to get the heart pumping like there will be no tomorrow!!

Sun: appreciations with thanks to Les&Ivy for yummy seafood+Steak A-la-Rochalie and nice of Theresa to dress up – she must be one of the most well-accessorize&glamourous OB-GYN who has crossed this life-journey so far…

Mon: lunch@MujiCafe/PlazaSIN with Lynne,Winnie&Rebecca(classmates from 1962CHIJ) before L&W take off back to UK&US, hopefully will be able to catch up again sometime next year…

How quickly has 5months passed for Lynne and 16days for Winnie here in SIN.

The Golden Glow of Friendship –

In shared adventures, hearts entwined,
A friendship deep, so well-defined.
Through laughter, tears, and endless fun,
Together we shine, as bright as the sun.

Each memory made, a thread we sew,
In this tapestry, our passions flow.
The golden glow of bonds so rare,
In friendship’s warmth, we find our care.

Tue: appreciations with tkx to Adeline for dinner&movie Unmoored@The Projector,OrchardCineleisure/GrangeRd – do not even remember when I was last in a cinema in the evening?

The film is an adaptation from the HåkanNesser novel The Living and the Dead which has been brought to the screen by Swedish director Caroline Ingvarsson. A Swedish TV presenter’s well-ordered life unravels when she finally confronts her domineering husband about an accusation against him. Her subsequent flight precipitates a chain of lies and paranoia in this taut psychological thriller – pix credits to Adeline.

Wed: was up until past mid-night last night to see how this ShelteredWalkway is put together but could not stay awake to watch the completion…

Nice to wake up to less dust&noise outside, so no need to beam me anywhere for now – hahaha! Both ShelteredWalkways on MarineT and junction of MarineC&T now completed and one more on MarineC/by the bus-stops to be completed. According to cousin Karen, an eye-sore to architects,

but glad to now be able to cross the road to the MamaShop,SIN-Pools,BengawanSolo without umbrella rain or shine in less than 5mins…

Edited: Sun30Mar2025 – today the last of the 3-ShelteredWalkways@MarineC&T is completed before 1-Apr. Am impressed with how efficiently and smoothly these constructions were done. And now completing some manicure work on MarineT living up to their tagline Delivering Your Feedback Into Reality!

Message from me: I am generally impressed with the MRT-TEL-MarineTerrace Station and would like to keep it that way. Please ensure that your staff keep an eye in these areas especially on Sundays so that ppl are aware that these areas are not for eating or loitering about. Thank you for your consideration.

Their reply Tue1Apr2025: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you are impressed with the Thomson-East Coast Line Marine Terrace MRT station.

We understand your concern about keeping the area free from eating and loitering, particularly on Sundays. Please rest assured that we will remind our staff to monitor these areas more closely to ensure the station remains clean and well-maintained.

While regulating such behavior can be challenging, we believe that fostering a considerate environment is a shared responsibility. We encourage commuters to be mindful of one another and to help create a pleasant experience for all. Although we may not always be able to directly enforce good behavior, we will continue exploring ways to encourage respectful conduct among passengers.

We wish you a pleasant day ahead. Best Regards, Rishii Subramaniam (Ms) Customer Relations | Commuter & Community Engagement

Wed2Apr2025: Appreciations for your prompt response. Will be good to have your uniformed-staff to monitor these areas, especially on Sundays to ensure the public that these kind of issues do not turn into problems. Thanks for your consideration. From a resident on MarineCrescent

St Patrick’s Day 2025

18 Mar 2025: Happy 51stBirthday Linn

Sat: is the Moon extra bright&large tonight or is it my OldFlowerEyes 老花眼 or imagination?? It’s absolutely beautiful&stunning, enjoying every moment of it. Believe it or not, was just watching a movie BlueMoon Blue Moon (1999) | Full Movie | Stream Core and took a look outside on the way for a toilet break – talk about coincidence but then read somewhere that there are no coincidences!

BloodWormMoon – first total lunar eclipse this year where US,Canada, and the rest of N&S-America will experience the full duration of totality. The moon phase on Sat15Mar, is Full Moon with an illumination of 96.77%. This represents the percent of the moon illuminated by the sun.
Sun: StPatsParade and here’s to celebrating&marking this event now 60times! in this life’s journey. There was a slight reluctance to budge away from the comfort AC-zone of the 4walls but will make the effort when health&weather conditions are permissible so as to live with as few regrets as possible – challenging as it can be while looks can be deceiving, hahaha!
Good turn-out, nice to see young&old+new faces – green balloons added a nice touch to the ambience&festivity.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you. May the blessings of St Patrick behold you

14 Mar 2025 – Welcome Back Winnie

Wed: checking&picking out what to watch fully and have chosen these to what is considered worthwhile for my personal interest. Was a total fan of GeorgePeppard/Breakfast@Tiffany’s/1961 during teen years – just watched his CrimeDrama Pendulum, great timeless movie plot despite the outfits and being filmed in 1969.
