Coffee Luwak

Sep 2024: Welcome #6

Fri: tkx for this CoffeeLuwak – first time tasting this coffee was Jul2010 –

Bali/1 – Here-There-Everywhere – This-That-Everything (amylamsg.com)

Jul2010: it was an exciting experience to discover that there are a couple of the civic cats in captivity. These are the cats that contribute to the best(relative) and most expensive coffee in the world – KopiLuwak cat poop coffee!

Memorable aroma&taste of this coffee but could not afford to be drinking it regularly! After watching this 2007 movie in 2013 put a smile on the face whenever treated with a cuppa of KopiLuwak.

What Is Kopi Luwak? The Disturbing Story of Cat Poop Coffee | Coffee Affection

2705_5600full-the-bucket-list-poster

The Bucket List/2007 – highly recommended starring two of my favourites, Jack Nicholson/Edward and Morgan Freeman/Carter as the two terminally ill men escape from a cancer ward and head off on a trip with a wish list of to-dos before they die. Not good review from the movie critics who are perhaps younger and are unable to relate to mortality! Personally, really enjoyed this movie.

IMG_7152Edward last visit with Carter and they share a few moments, wherein Carter reveals with great amusement how the KopiLuwak(most expensive coffee in the world) that Edward enjoys is grown in a Sumatran village, eaten&defecated by a jungle cat/Asian Palm Civet and is harvested because of the special aroma of the gastric juices.

Carter crosses off laugh till I cry from his bucket list and insists Edward finish the list without him…

Sat: believe or not but there is no KFC in Norway – dinner tonight@KFC/PP-MarineParade first time in a KFC in SIN! and first-time tasting fries with cheese. Amazing what this grandson can get his grandmothers to do, hahaha – pix downloaded.

Nice to see how trees are planted in a way to fit into this open-space corridor.

Pleasant walk on EC-Pk for #6 to experience the dogs@ParklandGreenDogRun and free flying parrots by ParrotSociety – last here with AudreyM&Skipper Apr2024

Sun: tkx for swim&dinner@Rochalie.

Mon: lunched@GreatWorldCity where #6 ate every morsel of the ChickenRice. Discovering new places – Art-Jamming with Cats@WildflowerStudio where #6 was delighted amongst these felines. Do like the surrounding gazebos in this EnablingVillage but more comfortable inside the AC-Lobby without the felines!

26 Sep 2024 – Welcome Back To SIN, Aileen

Mon: reading the news this morning and was stunned to learn that F1 attracted a sold-out crowd of ~270,000 fans over the three-day race weekend – just imagine that if each ppl paid at least ~S$500each! Wow!! F1 is certainly good business for SIN. Congratulation to Lando Norris/25 who won 2024 F1 and he is young enough to be my grandchild!! – pix downloaded.

Tue: follow-up appt@SGH and fortunately got there before the sky opened up pouring cats&dogs, not that it matters – do like these downpours even when walking as there is always an umbrella with me.

OldShifuCharcoalPorridge/58SengPohRd opp TiongBahruMarket&FoodCentre has one of the best Cantonese zhou, otherwise Congee if you are not Cantonese! Here with lean pork+century egg and pork liver on the side hit the spot.

With lean pork+century egg and pork liver on the side hit the spot – highly recommended and tkx to Clement for introducing this location, will definitely return for this comfort food.

https://www.facebook.com/oldshifucpsg/

Porridge vs Congee, what is the difference? Porridge is typically any soft food made by boiling oatmeal or other grains in water or milk. Congee is a type of ChineseRicePorridge that is usually paired with savory ingredients like spices, meat&veggies. Cantonese&TeochewCongee are two distinct styles of ChineseRicePorridge, each with its own unique characteristics&cultural significance.

CantoneseCongee is known for its smooth and creamy texture. The rice grains are cooked until they break down completely, creating a thick, velvety consistency – what I grew up eating, thus my preference.

TeochewCongee, on the other hand, has a lighter and more watery consistency. The rice grains remain whole and separate, floating in a clear broth – 7Porridge&Congee pix downloaded.

Tue: grocery@Giant with S$10+Promo+SeniorSavings – pleased with the MuscatGrapes/half price!

Wed: nice to catch up with Aileen for CheeCheongFun腸粉@MTmarket and walk to PP/MP. Appreciations for lovely flowers and for getting me to put in 8,000+steps today – lovely cloudy day. Above all, do not lose your desire to walk – Soren Kierkegaard

Read that SIN pop 6+million as at Jun2024 – considering that the area of SIN 719.1km²/277.65mi² and with Norway where the pop is 5+million with an area of 385,207km²/148,729mi²! Wow what a contrast, quite terrifying to think how overpopulated it is here and no wonder that I avoid going out during weekends!!

To all who might in the path of Helene/USA, plx take good care to be safe. Here in SIN its so far a lovely cool wet morning and hopefully will remain cool the rest of the day.

Thu: tkx to KK for dinner@InleMyanmar/PeninsulaPlaza – has been nearly 2decades ago since last tasted MyanmarCuisine. Salad, curry, soup,TamarindJuice+Mohinga which is Myanmar’s national dish of a broth that’s made from a mixture of fish paste, soup, rice vermicelli+various garnishes.
InleMyanmarRestaurant’s Mohinga also consists of rice vermicelli, but it also has yellow beans+hard-boiled egg. Yummy HsanwinMakin, sweet cake baked with semolina-flour. Asked about ChinSuck thinking it was some dish from fond memories of cousin David to learn that it means sour&spicy!

22 Sep 2024 – Formula One

Thu: what a coincidence to bump into DavidY@MarinaBayInterchangeMRT and it was meant to be that we could arrange a suitable meeting date for the family to meet when #6 arrives.

Appreciations to KK for delicious dinner @BondingKitchenRestaurant/OrchardGateway – modern take on PeranakanCooking. Last time here was Jan2024 with PeggyP also tlx to KK.

Foods this time round same as last but forgot to document then – pix downloaded are better than none! Drinks&Appetizer: BungaTelangLemongrass tastefully presented and not too sweet. KuehPieTee – JulienneTurnips braised with Mushroom,PorkBelly,PrawnsStock garnished with ChilliCuka,PorkLard,Prawn,QuailEgg – and it’s do it yourself to make sure that the shell remains as fresh&crispy as possible.

Dessert:Chendol- local shaved-ice topped with CoconutMilk,PalmSugar,PandanJelly,RedBeans.

Took the skybridge across OrchardRd for Bus16 and thank goodness no traffic diversions yet. F1 practises&qualifying start Fri&Sat early evening and the Race is on Sunday evening – keeping away from anywhere near the event! The roar of engine, the smell of burnt rubber – that’s what Formula One is about for me.

Fri: areas to avoid if you do not want to be caught in crowds, noise, pollution, traffic, etc, over the 🏁F1🏁weekend – not a fan of this event but good for SIN businesses!

Sat: lunch@ImperialTreasure/AsiaSq for one of my favourites BambooClams via ShentonWay MRTsta.

Was not even aware that WestinHotel has moved until today – somehow the acoustics here was not quite for the piano! The last time in the Westin was when it was located by CityHallMRT!!

Had to share MarinaOne as I was quite impressed with it when here for Bday lunch last year – 2above pix downloaded.

yummy foods,

had fun exploring this new exciting location.

Coffee&drink@TheSingapuraClub – for once music from the 1950s-70s could be recognized&related to and not blasting thru’ boombox, but in comfortable volume providing relaxing ambience with just us there(would not want to be here in any crowds). Apr2019 tkx to Daisy&Darryl for delicious lunch@KokSen/KeongSiakRd,MichelinBib GourmandZhiChar for their BigPrawn BeeHoon – a definite die die must try dish.

KeongSaik Rd – this building by the red car was where father used to play mahjong on Thu evenings – Apr2019

Sat2024: continued to Chinatown for the Mid-Autumn lights and for Durian-shaved-ice while the others had Chendo&Lychee@MeiHongYuen/ChinatownPt. Strolling along KeongSaikRd when this area was once upon a time a prominent red-light district with brothels located in the shophouses on either side of the street in the 1960s – now a trendy hip area with boutique cafes&eateries.

KokSen has relocated but on the same, and unable to locate father’s Thu club last night, or maybe the eyesight&memory are playing tricks but the temple is still there. 老花眼=OldFlowerEyes=Presbyopia also known as age-related farsightedness (or age-related long sight in the UK) prefer the Chinese expression when used at the appropriate time like now!

Oct2023: MondrianHotel with good view of Chinatown from their rooftop’s infinity pool(Level13) and nice suites(Level3) by the lush reflecting water – Oct2023.

Sat21Sep2024: evening drinks by the pool@MondrianHotel for a LycheeMartiniCocktail. Nice pleasant evening to end this long afternoon – good idea with water in cartons, espeically at the pool area. Was in daylight here last year and Claire&Stein were supposed to stay here in Jul but sadly&unfortunately had to cancel.

I’m not boozing, I’m just improving my cocktail balance – hahaha!

Sun: feeling all my joints&muscles this morning after yesterday’s walk/~16,000+steps! Tkx to Theresa&CJ for dinner@ImperialTreasureTeoChew/Ion

Mid-Autumn 2024

18 Sep 2024 – Welcome 2nd-Born

Sun: KineticRain is back@T1 and so is 2ndBorn – welcome back to SIN.

Still am totally hypnotized by this sculpture weighing 24tons 21,774kg and consisting of 1,216 motors. This modern arts showpiece, featuring the dance of a thousand copper raindrops in the air with precisely choreographed movements is designed by Art+Com. Very appropriate with constant busy movements like the life in this T1.

Nov2013: Sunday Times: A woman was arrested by the police after she climbed over the railing at Changi Airport Terminal 1 on the netting below the Kinetic Rain sculpture… damaged by the intrusion with some strings on the art sculpture entangled… OH NO, my favourite sculpture at the airport, she should be deported!

Mon: @Parkway getting popiah,Bday-noodles, etc for dinner@Rochalie where the pool is more or less ready to be used! Happy 81stBday to Ivy

Tue: 祝福大家中秋節快樂 Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to all celebrating&marking today. Enjoy your 月饼/Mooncake, I grew up with the 蓮蓉LotusSeed paste filling – nowadays there are all sorts of different fillings, but my personal preference is still the simple white Lotus; 菱角/WaterCaltrop, 餘頭/Taro, the only time I eat these foods – life is like a mooncake, sometimes sweet, sometimes nutty, hahaha and remember that we are all under the same sky, looking at the same moon but just seeing it at different times!

These are the type of lanterns I grew up with and they are just as beautiful in my eyes today, especially when lid in the dark. Also do like the simple paper ones too, easier for storage and the edition from last year is a hot-air-ballon design. Unless something unusual catches my eye, doubt that there will be any more new additions to this collection.

14 Sep 2024 – In Memory of Geno ONG

Trips to Giant&IKEA/Tampines for more errands picking up these clip-on shelves – nowadays unable to run around all day or carry too much, so will have to make shorter trip within a day!

Always wanted 2clocks to know the time in Norway as well as here but none within my budget have so far caught my eyes – at S$5each and to my likings, managed to hang and satisfied with these for now…

Thu: tkx to ClimateVouchers for this fan with 5% discount S$12.90@BestDenki for members(appreciations to niece for the use of her membership), S$245 deducted from vouchers with still S$55 left. Total amount spent S$8taxi-fare to get this fan back to the 4-walls – walked to PP/MP but could not walk back with this bulky item.

Have been eyeing bladeless fans for the past years but they were all way above my budget! EuropAce/Air-PurifyingBladelessFanS$258 is light enough for me to carry to the taxi-stand, mobile to move around within the 4-walls safely and for ppl like me who are tired of cleaning dirt&dust caught in the blades&the protective guard of fans. Fri: long considered a harbinger of bad luck, Friday the 13th has inspired a late 19th-century secret society, an early 20th-century novel, a horror film franchise and not one but two unwieldy terms—paraskavedekatriaphobia and friggatriskaidekaphobia—that describe fear of this supposedly unlucky day.

Sat: nice cool wet morning, clearing&cleaning hoping to declutter more stuff but does not seem to feel or look any different!! How in the world can so much stuff fit into a 4-wall-studio-apt??? Tkx to Ria for her share about that the Sumatras are lines of thunderstorms which I only just learnt about!

Had to try again knowing that the stomach will be upset, but now easier to handle being in familiar grounds – glutton for punishment, hahaha!

Empurau

10 Sep 2024 – An Unforgettable Fishy Tale

Sat: thank you NUS-TravelResearch for FairPriceS$10voucher+S$12cash for participating in their research.

Sun: discovered how delightfully nice&quiet to walk to PP via MTstn-MPstn on an early Sun-morning. This will be an alternative walk for me on Sundays than on EC-Pk which is crowded on Sundays.

After getting out@MTstnExit3, there is this old concrete fence which is about to see its last days and someone has a cat-house outside the fence of some condo…

Appreciations to Leonard for setting up the iPhone(tkx to Clement) ready to be used. Thank you to Les&Ivy for one of my favourite fish Empurau prepared to perfection. WangPuLiao 忘不了=Unforgettable is one of the most expensive fresh-water-fish feeding on wild fruits is prized for its sweet, tender flesh and smooth texture, not often do I get to eat this delicious fish. Also got to taste MoonCakes and still like the plain lotus more than any of the others I have so far tasted over the years…

Going down memory lane with Unforgettable and looks like I have got to taste this fish 4-5times over the decade!

Oct2013: tkx to Les&Ivy for delicious dinner at Crystal Jade/Paragon**** Yummy celebrations with niece Kat&family back from NY and Patricia’s Bday. Top of the menu was the Empura /WangPuLiao/忘不了 and only Les could have pull this thru’ bringing his own fish and telling the chef how he wants it prepared! Being a fish lover, this is still one of the best tasting fish for me! Fresh water fish from the rivers in Borneo with a diet of fresh fruits is one of the most expensive fish in this region.

Nov2010: Empurau, Chinese call it WangPuLiao/忘不了=Unforgettable, taste really good with a texture that words are unable to describe. This freshwater riparian specie is found in a river in Sibu, Sarawak and is very rare in everyways, especially when it jumps up to grab fruits that overhang the rivers. Unforgettable cost anything from ~MYR 800-1,500/S$240-500 per kilo and that to me is an unforgettable price! So don’t go choking on the bones!! If not for Les, would never have the chance to taste it. Thanks, Les, for lunch at the Imperial TreasureSuperPekingDuck@Paragon.
Sep2024: just learnt from NancyW that this is also RedEye 紅眼睛 – tkx for that share.

City Square Mall 2024

6 Sep 2024 – Happy Birthdays May and Olai

Tue: neighbour has started renovation works, the noise is too much to stay in my 4-walls and they are only doing minor works. Just imagine what it was like when all my interior walls(except for one!) and floor were hacked away 25yrs ago! hate to be any of my neighbours then!!

IKEA/TampinesS$176 – the free shuttle from Bedok goes every hour starting starting at 11.00hrs but did not want to deal with the crowd there in addition that the smaller shuttles are unable to sometimes fit everyone. Being a SeniorCitizen, there is no extra charges on bus fares for 2transfers Bus196-BedokInterC-Bus168 to TampinesAve10 crossing overhead bridge to discover a new bus stop in front of IKEA where Bus296 goes to TampinesInterC.

Too tired to go out again despite Les’s fresh seafood catch but do appreciate the invite. Made my own Gravlaks with dill bought from Mustafa yesterday, hopefully enough treats gotten from IKEA too.

Jan2021: World’s 1st indoor-atrium-net-playground opened in 2018 and have been wanting to try this playground that span over levels 2-6@CitySquareMall. Yes, did enquire about the age limit and with Les’s clinic just around the corner@FarrerPkMedicalCentre, it should be OK incase of emergency – hahaha!

Sun: simple Bfast@local market and later to coincidently discover that nephew had the same except that coffee here was just plain but according to him the milk foam actually goes well with the you tiao.
