Fri 9th CNY Day: the whole body, especially the stomach and mouth! really needed this day to rest. Not sure about others, but this indulgence is not healthy and certainly feeling the consequences! Spent the day downloading other pix which have been neglected due to the overwhelming social activities over the CNY.
Elgin Bridge over SIN River connecting to Chinatown taken on different days and at different angles.
Marine Crescent with block 46 in different angles to remind myself what it looks like before the eyesight and memory fade 🙂
Sat 10th CNY Day: thank you Brian & Helen for a delightful get together of black/blue or white/gold talks 🙂 Missed Sylvia who is in Switzerland for boarding school. Before long it will be Sophie’s turn. Leonard who had to be back in Brunei was also missed!
Fortunate to catch the performances of these dragon and lion dancers where the Marine Terrace neighbours are having their LoHei in the common area downstairs from blk 46.
Vincent, my contractor posted the above pix and it is rather neat. No not redecorating, happy with my book shelves and piano. If you need a good contractor, I will highly recommend Vincent.
My comment: here is how to decorate your accommodations and always KNOW your time even if you are NOT able to be on time. Remember that Time and Tide wait for NO one – so enjoy your time while it is still there for you.

26 Feb 2015 – 7th CNY Day When Humans Were Created!
Mon 5th CNY Day: welcome home Leonard, my computer guru and Hi-tech friend. Thanks for updating my system in the midst of your busy schedule. Good to see Justin too! Safe journeys back to Brunei and looking forward to visiting him before heading on to the US.
Tue 6th CNY Day: Happy Bday to Calvin@Campers Corner – lunched on chicken wings, roast duck and pork, chased down with whiskey tasting! Appreciations to SengTeong for yummy mussels, clams and prawns! Poor Chris, he must be overworked, he looked so tired!
Wed 7th CNY Day 人日 renri (Peoples day) was the day human beings were created. Happy Birthday to Everybody. Popped by to H&H to wish everyone there a Happy New Year!
Interesting piece of art at Bugis Illumia Shopping Centre. Watched Kingsman****A spy organization recruits an unrefined, but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program, just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius…
And its worth the time to just watch Colin Firth 🙂
LoHei with Henry in Chinatown. The Q in one of the LoHei stalls must have taken hours. We chose the stall without any Q.
Thu 8th CNY Day: LoHei@Paragon Crystal Jade Golden Palace**** with the MtE clinic staff and the doctors who have been taking such good care of me.
Thank you all for everything.
Welcome Angelina, Kurt and Kiefer to SIN on transit and safe journeys back to Belgium. 5 months have gone by quickly for Angelina and Kiefer who were in KCH for the winter. Introduced them to this awards-winning, customers highly recommended stall, the No 18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow‘****managed by Mr Ho with experience accumulated over the years!
Harry Hart in Kingsman quoting Ernest Hemingway – There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow-man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.
Sat: 3rd CNY Day, tkx Audrey for a delicious lunch. Great to see her mom Betty in good healthy spirits and nice to meet her sis April and the rest of the family.
年糕 NianGao = Rice Cake: A must to eat during Lunar New Year. Niangao sounds like it means ‘getting higher year-on by year’. This means more prosperous and better improvement in life – Audrey Wong
Dinner with Wilki&Pattie and Jo in Little India Tekka Market. Looked like the food was too hot for Jo 🙂 Strolled around Fullerton One and to the Fullerton Heritage Gallery which was Wilkie&Pattie and Jo’s first visit!
Sun: 4th CNY Day – Yeohs, welcome home from their visit in Malaysia. Missed you all on the 1stDay! Today visits from MtE staff & families and other friends.
Fun with new toy, a karaoke set Les won at a golf game! Another excellent wine and whatever will happen will happen at this rate of over-indulgence!! Missed Carmel, Soon & Cian who are still in Malaysia.
Appreciations to Les&Ivy for yet another successful get-together with good food and great wines. Extra pix and less words for this posting to make up for the lousy blurred pix on the 1st CNY day 🙂
We live in an image society. Speeches are not what anybody cares about; what they care about is the picture – Madeleine Albright
Mon: bright lights with 財神=God of Wealth at Marina Bay Floating Platform, world’s largest floating stage and some excitement with 2 tightrope walkers on this breezy night!
Walked to Chinatown where it is getting ready to welcome the Year of the Goat/Sheep/Ram. Was there late last night and avoided the crowded shopping streets, stayed on the main street to see the lights. Tomorrow night will be ‘people mountain people sea’. Was fortunate that there were barricades on the road side where the camera could be balanced for clearer night pix.
Tue & Wed: last moments of shopping cleaning and sewing! The art of procrastination 🙂 Tkx for reunion dinner at Jo’s.
With all those discussions about it being the Year of the Goat or Sheep or Ram; so it is the year of the Goat, but the Chinese character 羊 = goat and sheep are the same while to me they are 2 completely animals, they even look and taste different!! Being Chinese of race here does not help with the confusion 🙂 🙂
Thu: 恭禧發財 Gong Hey Fat Choy with my minimal and modest decorations! No matter if it is the year of the Goat or Sheep or Ram – A Happy Healthy & Wealthy 2015 to all who are celebrating the Lunar/Chinese New Year!
As long as 4aunt, 100yrs, the eldest of my father’s generation is alive, she will be the first to visit. Tkx to cousins Wilki&Pattie for all the goodies. Glad that he can make it back from HI/USA. Always a pleasure to see them.
Continued with visits to 10&13aunts and to 11aunt. Good to see Ken&Cynthia this time round. They are usually out by the time we get there. 11aunt’s condition is not the best as she fell a couple of times since Nov. Also her memory is failing.
16aunt was there and 17uncle with his two children visiting from NZ; LAMChengSong/22yrs & LAMJiaWen/18yrs who are my cousins and the youngest of the green generation.
Lunch at Les&Ivy and discovered a new game – The Game of Life! If only life is just a game and with Les’s top wines, life can sometimes feel like it is a game. Explains why many pix turned out blurred except a few and the one with Patricia&Lee 🙂 🙂 🙂
Dinner at cousin Karen and good to see aunt Ngor (from KCH, the Chan family, paternal grand mother’s side). The KCH laksa is yummy and Karen&Peter never fail to provide a scrumptious CNY spread. Tkx for including me.
Fri: CNY 2nd day visit takes a whole day! 2nd sis-in-law, YokeSau lives with niece Jenleng near Kranji. Bus to the CityHall MRT and then nearly an hour on the train to get to Kranji. Good to see them but being 2nd day, missed JenMun, JenWee, Steve & their families. From 2nd bro, KwokKiong total of 16…
It’s the game of life. Do I win or do I lose? One day they’re gonna shut the game down. I gotta have as much fun and go around the board as many times as I can before it’s my turn to leave – Tupac Shakur
App 3,500k, 5mill steps, 127days, 14 US states = One AT Thru’Hike 🙂
Fri: early appointment at NDC. Later at Changi Airport T2 to meet Lawrence arriving from KCH. Had lunch with him at the airport before heading to Les&Ivy.
Sat: Happy Valentine’s Day, a card for Linn&May and one for me 🙂 🙂 Did NOT wish and want to be out in the crowds and traffic on this day, also the last weekend of shopping for the CNY. Got a message from Ivy telling me that the crowds and traffic are horrendous. Just stayed indoors and relax chatting with family and friends on Skype. Nice to catch up.
Sun: Happy Birthday to god-daughter Guri in Norway and condolences to the Stenseth family for the passing of Anne Stenseth Sr. May she RIP.
Tkx May & Irene for sharing this interesting link. My comments –
Many of the mainland Chinese here and HKG too are not well received for good reasons, not because of race. I considered myself Chinese of race but Singaporean by birth and multicultural in thoughts.
Brought Malay breakfast over to Les&Ivy for their Korean guests, Mr&Mrs Kim and their lovely daughter HaeKyung. Nasi Lemak is familiar to most of us local but this savory snack Kui Bakar Berlauk is new to me, quite good, all that from the local Marine Terrace stall***
Tkx to nieces Judy&Daisy, nephews Vince&Clem and grand-nephews Stanley, Andrew and Darryl from bro Steven’s branch for including me to their reunion at Tiong Bahru Por Kee Eating House***Such a coincidence that 10&16aunts, 17uncle, cousins ChengChwab&Amy, Wilkie&Pattie/visitingfrom HI/USA, Sara, Wilson and Jason were also there.
Tkx to cousin Wilki for delicious durian treat in Chinatown. If the eating continues at this rate, it will be difficult for the heart to keep beating and pumping blood and I will only have myself to blame…
To look backward for a while is to refresh the eye, to restore it, and to render it the more fit for its prime function of looking forward – Margaret Fairless Barber, The Roadmender
Mon: yeah, the 3 different antibiotics taken last month killed off those H-pylori and hopefully will not be bothered by them again! Coincidently H-pylori was identified by Australian scientists Barry Marshall/1982 who is a good friend of PP&Ian in Perth.
In 1994, the National Institutes of Health (USA) published an opinion stating most recurrent duodenal and gastric ulcers were caused by H-pylori, and recommended antibiotics be included in the treatment regimen.
Another weekend goes by and it was not good timing to video Skype with the grandchildren in USA but at least got to see Olai who was getting ready to watch Dora the Explorer. Look forward to the weekends when I get to see them on my screen.
When tests need to be done at Mt E, have to fast from mid-night until the tests are done, usually between 1000 – 1100hrs the next day. Mornings before 1100hrs are the few times I would set foot in Lucky Plaza Asian Food Mall. This place is usually crowded and on the weekends it is packed with Filipino domestic helpers! Also one of the few places one can find authentic Filipino food!
Plaza SIN deco for the CNY are in full everlasting bloom!
Have always wanted to try the Fruit Paradise****cakes and finally today bought a piece of the cake S$8 with an additional cost of .50c to go. It taste as good as it looks.
Still Alice****Alice, happily married with 3 grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. When she receives a devastating diagnosis, Alice and her family find their bonds tested. Julianne Moore’s performances are usually good and this is no exception.
This movie hit a raw nerve, especially the scene when she prepares how the exit when her mind was still more or less in tact. As one gets up in age, more reason to document and update a blog with pix to help with the memory…
Tue: movies seen online the past few days and like Alice, these will soon be forgotten!
2005 AT memories (now this will not be forgotten as long as dementia stays away!) staring with the month of May from GA, NC & TN. Looking forward to planning a short hiking trip on the AT in the time frame between 15May-15Jun to meet up with fellow-hikers HiHills, MoFo, Pokey, Wiggs and whoever who wish to join. MoFo & Pokey will be celebrating their 20th reunion thru’ hike while Wiggs and I , our 10th. Only short mileage days so that Trail Angel can play the part this time round!
9 Feb 2015 – Negative Predictions In Every Way & All The Way 🙁
Wed: not liking what is in the 2015 Chinese Zodiac for the sign of the Ox. Bad enough that the Chinese consider that the goat and sheep is the same animal and if it proves to be correct I am in for a bad bad year – as if it was not rough enough for the year of the Horse! Jada time will show but no harm to tie loose ends 🙂
Thu: a visit to the local Polyclinics and was not that bad. There at 0800hrs and out by 1000hrs. Thought that the billing was incorrect but to my surprise that was not the case – consultation + 1 month supply of 3 different medications S$12.40.
Visited and lunched with Ivy, brought them the family’s favourite ‘paus’. Watched Wild****Driven to the edge by the loss of her beloved mother, the dissolution of her marriage and a headlong dive into self-destructive behaviour, Cheryl makes a decision to halt her downward spiral and put her life back together again. With no outdoors experience, a heavy backpack and little else to go on but her own will, Cheryl sets out alone to hike the PCT – one of USA longest and toughest through-trails.
Inspired to hike sections of the AT again. 10yrs ago thru-hiked the AT/USA (3,500k), MacLehose/HKG (2012/100k), C2C/UK (2013/309k). Only section hikes for now…
Fri: unusual cloud formations on the way to Chinese class. It will be another 3weeks before the next class. Colourful Chinatown with quite a crowd. Bought tangerines from China are sweet and good for the CNY. Bought 2 packages at S$4pp, not sure if I will dare venture into Chinatown the next few weeks. Nowadays one gets such sweet strawberries from Korea and now these tangerines from China. Should not eat too much of these ‘engineered food’ not knowing what has been added…
Fun to venture in my own neighbourhood/East Coast Rd to check out the area and discover eateries. Mexican restaurant Margarita’s***with Ting, CH & Henry for a pre–CNY dinner. There is something lacking in the salsa but just unable to pin point what it is?? Tkx for good company and food.
Quite a trendy area with many eateries which will be on my list. Like the way how The Peranakan Hotel conceals their AC compressors outside the building and their colourful alfresco sitting area. All these just 5mins walk from my place where we returned for cheese and wine.
Sat: shopped and dined at Liang Ct. Appreciations to Clem for Circle Mirror***with Pangdemonium performance of a play by Annie Baker. Centered on drama classes at a community centre in Vermont/USA about five wannabe actors.
Has been an Adrian Pang fan since the movie Forever Fever****It has been a while since the last DBS Arts Centre performance.
Changing colours at OC – like SIN never-ending constructions and re-constructions! The former Dubliner Irish pub is now barricaded but the bus-stop in front of it is still there. Whatever it is going to be, just hope that the old building stays as it is the only one of the old colonial charm on this road…
Sun: tkx for visit Carmel. A week ahead with cleaning which desperately needs it, especially the windows and the curtains. Spring cleaning before the CNY can hopefully reverse the non-favourable predictions for 2015… 🙂 🙂
Who needs astrology? The wise man gets by on fortune cookies – Edward Abbey 🙂 🙂 🙂
Sun: at SIN Casket and Mandai Crematorium to bid farewell to KimLeong. Was there not long ago for another wake. At this stage of life will be saying more farewells…
Mon: not in the mood to be out anywhere or with anyone. The fact that 5 people I knew passed on since 14Jan in addition to the wet weather made it a day to stay indoors to eat, sleep and staying online. Will probably not remember any of these movies.
Three clever and creative logos: if you hadn’t noticed, there are two T’s partying over a bowl of salsa. The pink part in the “BR” stands for 31; which is how many flavours they’re known for having. Camera/place setting, nice.
Tue: enjoying these breezy days with no need for AC sewing and listening to music. Getting the CNY outfit ready is taking its toll on the eyes with threading of needle 🙂 Pix credits to ST & CHAN ChunSing of the crowds for the CNY light up on Sat night. Looking forward to seeing the lights.
Tkx Linda for the share of this site. That explains why I listen and hear so well… hahaha! Have been at the piano for six decades and still at it; the cello is history, now exchanged for a ukulele. Downgrading in size – lol.
Tkx to Jules for this bit of interesting news. Re-reading some of these books and most interesting to realize how religion was to me when in my 20s, 30s, 40s 50s and now 60s. Having lived amongst these Nordic environment for over a decade, do have a slight idea about Norse Mythology and the Vikings! Good company for Allah, Buddha, God, deities, etc. As the saying goes, ‘the more themerrier’ 🙂 🙂 🙂
An interesting read where one sentence – ‘A nascent megalomaniac may wear many hats before donning the service cap and shades of a despot’ got me looking up the dictionary 3times!!! But that one powerful sentence describes some people who many are not aware of 🙁
Wed: Happy Bday to bro Lawrence, wow it has been a year ago we were in KCH/Sarawak celebrating his 80th???
2 Feb – Happy Bdays Cathrine & Garry
4 Feb – Happy Bdays Lawrence & Kurt
14 Feb – ♥ ♥ ♥ Happy Valentine’s Day ♥ ♥ ♥
15 Feb – Happy Bday Guri
16 Feb – Happy Bday Mike/AT Trail name LOON
18 Feb – Happy Bday Henry
