Free Public Transportation

10 Jan 2025 – But Not For All

Tue: finally, a day with enough energy&time to put away ChristmasDecor and the 2Handmade&PaintedGreetings+the handful of snailmail to be stored for updating&replying in Nov with hopes that the memory will still be intact – hahaha!

Bus&MRT fares have gone up .04c – now no longer .99c but S$1.03 for Seniors. This S$60 2024PublicTransportVoucher should cover the increase for the year!

I understand that UK-Seniors can travel free on buses, but not sure if that applies for the subway too? or if anywhere else in the world has free public transportation for their SeniorCitizens besides China&UK? Can anyone enlighten me on this??

Wed: downstairs neighbour’s has complained about some leak and now my bathroom floor is flooded with non-stain-dye looking like some alien bright fluorescent colour to test what&where is causing the leak. After the release of the dye and even after rinsing, looked like the leak is from the join of the toilet-bowl, will have to find someone reliable to repaint&reseal the bathroom floor with attention to that area.

Thu: Happy  Bdays to nieceJudy and nephewLee Due to some SeniorMoments got their dates mixed for earlier dates with them now turning to more than ½ a century. Well better earlier than never and sometimes I’ve reached the age where my train of thought sometimes leaves the station without me – also reminding me to organise some of the old B/W photos while the memory is somehow still there. 1991Pix with father with some of the OrangeG for his 80Bday

Not sure if I will ever make it but in my thoughts&plans for 2026-29, ie before I turn 80! Open for any suggestions and any other links if anyone has more info than what is so far below. Hannah&Heiko my young friends did this with a full pack, NO will NEVER do with a full pack and except for the snakes, looks beautiful & peaceful and most tempting with few ppl. Overland Track is an Australian bushwalking track, traversing CradleMountain-LakeStClair NationalPark, within the TasmanianWildernessWorldHeritageArea.

Tkx to Hannah for her share and the below link to one of my bucket list hikes and if health&finance permit would like to do this hike. She&Heiko just did a 6days hike here and as tempting as it looks OverlandTrackDay3: Panorama of the dolerite mountain peaks (from left) Mt Oakleigh, Pelion East, Ossa, Thetis, Achilles, and Pelion West.

OverlandTrackDay4: Beautiful scoparia flowers (alpine wildflowers) just a short walk from Pelion Gap up the side track to Mt Ossa. The peak in the background is Mt Doris – except for OverlandTrackDay6: Tasmanian tiger snake in the bushes. Highly venomous but not aggressive, we saw about 6 of them on the track and they were always moving away from us – caption&pix credits to Hannah

Fri: a cool lovely wet morning here with no complains here considering what is happening in parts of UK&USA with freezing temps and fires in CA/USA – to those in affected areas, plx stay safe&warm.

With the chaos due to the recent unexpected&unpredicted weathers including floods, earthquakes, fires, stampedes, wars, etc am wondering if reading into too much in my last ¼Century? Oh well, life happens! but will still keep living&looking forward to the best&fullest as possible in my present circumstances now that this body will soon be ¾Century in existence on planet Earth – life sounds more exciting when you can measure it by Century hahaha. 5 Jan 2025 – From Teen Years To Senior Years

Fri: hello to the 1st2025Friday with 51more to follow! On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me, Ten Lords a Leaping – and yes I do need those 10 Lords not just leaping around but to make themselves useful by cleaning&clearing+putting away Xmas-Decor before CNY-Decor can be up.

SongWithoutEnd/1960 the story of FranzLiszt. Must have watched this movie in my teens but and now again in my 70s – testimony of an amazing pianist with a fantastic musical talent portrayed by the dashing DirkBogarde(somehow do not remember him being so hot! in my teens – hahaha)who is far from any resemblance to the real Liszt! The piano pieces were performed beautifully by the great JorgeBolet. There are obvious discrepancies between this film and the real life of the person involved but this is after all a movie, not a documentary.

Enjoyed reading SomersetMaugham(1874-1965:English writer known for his plays, novels&short stories) in my teens and now still enjoying his works again but thru’ audiobooks on YouTube. Perhaps his lengthy trips to distant places+a long life makes him one of the most prolific writers. One of his short stories about a pearl necklace – MrKnowAll highlights the value of honesty, loyalty, compassion&understanding.

With a NewYearDraw of ~S$8.2Millions and despite the chances will need to be part of this excitement especially when SingaporePools is at my convivence being just across the street, ie less than 1min walk! If only the QuickPick picked 9 11 24 29 39 46 – ss the Chinese expression for gambling 倒錢 literally means to pour away money and if I could not afford to lose S$10 then should not have played TOTO – hahaha

Sat: walk about around the blocks, finally without any hoardings at Block47 and a new sign, playground, hardcourt at the junction of MarineCres/TaoNanSchool&MarineParadeRd – glad to see how nice&clean Blocks43-47 here are being upkept.

First 2025 of fresh OJ@IJOOZS$2 favourite OJ-juice machines by the public laundry machines at Block47 and for those juice machines this is their 134,987,046cups – do treat myself to one of these ~once a month.

Sun: appreciations for this visit and nice that some ppl can still enjoy the playground+the walk above ground to CCF-Bfast@MT-Market and back via underground.

And many thanks to Calvin&Sam for delicious Japanese lunch@KiTeppan&Rogama/PalaisRenaissance,OrchardRd where the cuisine isn’t just a meal; it’s an art form, a reflection of nature’s bounty+meticulous craftsmanship and Ishindenshin – communication through silent understanding; telepathy of the heart with Helen & Yukie too. Excited to hear about the future plans for CC/SIN&Japan.

2 Jan 2025: Happy New Year

Mon: on this 6thDay of Christmas, no six geese a-laying but laundry done&folded, not enough energy or motivation there yet to put them away. Will wait until 12rhDay of Christmas, ie Sun5Jan2025 to put away all the 2024Season’sDeco&Greetings at the same time

Tue: be safe&enjoy this last 2024Day and for 2025Countdown wherever you all may be on this 7thDay of Christmas. Looks like the hood here is ready&decked – so before the clock strikes mid-night tonight, instead of raising your glass, raise your LeftFoot and then you can be sure you will start 2025 on the RightFoot – hahaha

Literally&practically at my doorsteps on the 7thFloor, without any need to be in the crowd, delighted to see ppl gathered for the countdown and in my present situation, there’s nowhere as the comfort of my 4-walls where I want to be – that’s what being at the RightPlace&RightTime on the RightFoot with the RightPerson is about for me!

Wed1Jan2025/12midnight: festive fireworks display and glad that ppl could stay in their heartlands to ring in 2025 despite my personal thoughts about fireworks! but what is most impressive is that everything is cleared&cleaned before daylight to start a bright&clean 2025 after a good night with ~6+hrs sleep.

Happy New Year/新年快樂/Godt nytt år to Each and Every One of You wherever You may be. Starting 2025 on the RightFoot with Gratitude & Hopes that both HealthyFeet will carry us Peacefully & Safely to wherever we belief or choose or dream or hope or want or wish to be…

Kiritimati Island also known as the Christmas Island and 10 others mostly uninhabited islands of the central Pacific Ocean is the first to ring in 2025. Countries furthest to the west on a British map are the last to celebrate the New Year this means, two uninhabited islands southwest of Hawaii, named Baker Island and Howland Island, will be the last to see the start of 2025.

Who celebrates the new year first and last? It’s complicated.

Tkx with appreciations to CH for this share from JoanWang and so far, the pix that talked to me where fireworks are concerned!

為避免你們晚上拍不到清晰的煙火,我現在先把煙火的照片跟你們分享喔!

In case you don’t get clear fireworks at night, I’m sharing photos with you now!
Happy new year
Somehow the above pix managed to brush a certain chord in me that has been brewing over the past few decades! As spectacular(irony) as these NYE-Fireworks around the world are, cannot keep but wondering about more constructive ways to spend these $MultiBillions$ on, like education, medical, etc instead of fireworks, firearms, etc… senior years are certainly bringing back some idealistic teen years thoughts – hahaha.
Thu: feeling blessed&grateful to be able to catch up with greetings to&from family&friends around the world. Done with AntiB, slowly but surely breathing with less coughing after another goodnight of ~7+hrs sleep.

Safe Onwards Journey To #2Ellie

29 Dec 2024: Ancient Apocalypse

Thu: HappyBoxingDay/StStephen’sDay/WrenDay on this 2ndDay of Christmas. Gledelig Jul and not God Jul as L&M’s Norwegian paternal-great-grand-mother would say after ChristmasEve is over. Nice way to spend her last day here shopping on this trip with her cousins Kiera&Isabella, girls of own generation, Purple and not being stuck with us the older Green&OrangeG – hahaha.

Fri: TGIF and a good last 2024weekend to all on this last 2024Friday – ending this trip at MT-Market 0530hrs with her favourite CheeCheongFunBfast 豬腸粉 on this dark&early morning before catching the 1stBus36 0559hrs to the airport. Her favourite so far is CCF@MTmarket and #6s favourite is 小龍包XiaoLongBao@鼎泰豐DinTaiFung, easy to remember…

Despite no water at JewelsRainVortex still beautiful&lush for my eyes – safe onwards journey to her. Impressed&proud of this fine beautiful young lady and all the best to her for her future onwards life journey whose goal is to be a neurosurgeon.

Back in the neighbourhood where sprucing&tentage set-up for 2025’s-countdown. Cooking all day of duckbones from LuckyHouse’s dinner and feasting on tasty homemade congee&soup from the broth.

Sat: after a good night sleep and looks like a busy Sat in the hood with laying of new asphalt, time to close the windows and turn on the AC to continue watching movies while the laundry gets good drying weather on this 4thDay of Christmas. Enjoying thoroughly, finding these documentaries AncientApocalypse by GrahamHancock with much interest, do remember asking similar questions in my teens after reading ErikVonDäniken’s books – even more so now in my senior years when there is quiet quality time to read&reflect!

Merry 2024 Christmas

25 Dec 2024 – Tanglin Club

Sun: as the saying goes, it does not just rain, but it pours go for a stiff neck on top of what is happening – definitely&literally a pain in the neck for me but hopefully not a pain in the neck to others – hahaha! Appreciations to Sue for this CCF-Brunch@MT-Market, finally they get to taste my favourite CCF and Ellie is grateful for an afternoon shopping@Chinatown. Tkx to Lee, she got her first taste of durian and according to her it kinda taste ok but with a weird aftertaste, like rotten!

Special thanks to family&friends for helping out, have never felt so out of sort and hopeless to be a better grandmother as I would like to be and despite that delighted that Ellie is having a blast and only one more day tomorrow before she heads to Uganda/Africa for her mission trip to help a doctor who has started a hospital there.

Appreciations to Clement for meeting us MaxwellTE18@Chinatown where he takes over while I turned around back to my 4walls to rest. Relentless coughing and short of breath, hopefully this will soon pass but in the meanwhile need to take it easy.

Fri: walking by the durians which she is willing to try but not just today for today will ease gently from a local brunch of FishballNoodle@MT-market
to her first HighTea at Ion55Floor@Atico/OrchardRd, perfectly high enough for high tea! Being such a perfect sport, she ate up every morsel of the food or maybe she was hungry and I am not feeding her enough – hahaha! Appreciations to DrChuaYang for her time during this busy season with information and questions Ellie had for her. Sat&Sun: getting gifts, etc ready before #2 arrives – has been quite a weekend with a nasty cough&runny nose, lousy night sleep+rashes but this too shall hopefully pass soon…

On this 3rdSunday of Advent, my favourite ChristmasLights has been and still is from RegentSt,London/UK tastefully done in my eyes – pix downloaded. When it is something as beautiful as this, do not need to change.

LuckyHouseCantonesePrivateKitchen 陶然居私房菜not sure you can call SamWong’s cuisine typical Cantonese but there is a lot of sincerity in the food. He uses charcoal fire for many dishes, including the boiled soups, reminding of where the cook used wood&charcocal fire for cooking in my childhood days. Marketing for fresh ingredients he cooks whatever he can find, thus menu changes daily.

OldHenSoup with sea coconut and cactus flower+many more other ingredients 霸王花海底椰煲鸡汤 – excellent natural taste without any trace of any artificial ingredients. RoastDuck 陶然烤鸭 marinated for two days, and then sun-dried for another day, unusual to get it served with pineapple&cucumber but a nice change.

Chicken – good flavours, SteamedPomfret 清蒸鬥鯧魚 again unusual to be served with ChoyPoh 菜脯 (Chinese sweet-salty preserved daikon radish, a preserved vegetables/pickles). After seeing the ChickenDish pix, JanS asked could they leave off the rooster head? Ophidiophobia – from the Greek words ophis(ὄφις)=snake+phobia(φοβία)=fear. Have not really given much thoughts to this fear but recently with all these snake news, am wondering why? No cause of distress or limitation to my activities but just dislike seeing or meeting them, thus no pix posting of real snakes. Ophidiophobia applies to ppl whose fear causing anxiety disorder and if

  • You have intense fear, panic, or anxiety that is unreasonable and difficult to manage.
  • The fear of snakes is out of proportion to the danger.
  • Your fear lasts longer than 6 months.
  • Your fear starts to negatively impact your life. You may find it difficult to behave normally in work, school, or social situations.

What Causes Ophidiophobia? Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment

Studies have shown that certain regions of the brain, such as the amygdala, are highly active when people see images of snakes, even if they are unaware of their presence. This heightened awareness helps individuals recognize and avoid potential threats.

Innate Predispositionresearch suggests that humans are biologically predisposed to fear snakes, even without direct exposure or negative experiences. Experiments with infants have shown that they react more strongly to images of snakes than to images of other animals, such as birds or cats. This indicates that the fear may be hardwired into the brain, rather than solely learned through experience.

Why Are Humans So Instinctively Afraid Of Snakes?

Sun: enjoying this 2nd Sunday of Advent chatting with 1stBorn in USA and having a relaxing lunch of leftovers FreshFigWrappedProsciutto, CreamCheeseSmokedSalmonRose and FreshFruitSalad.

Mon: reading&watching movies

Our brains usually see things better if there’s a comparison.

So, we can compare Singapore to KL, in terms of public transport.

When I was there in KL (I’m a Singaporean), I was struck by the many highways, expressways, lebuh rayas, flyovers etc; and different kinds of commuter trains. But I was even more struck by the big number of cars and traffic jams all over despite the amount of money poured into the transport infrastructure.

I was told that the train systems were built and run by different companies, and similarly the bus system too. There’s a great deal of “disconnections”, and poor planning.

I told myself that if KL’s transport infrastructure had been carefully planned and built, many people would not need to drive.

The KL chaos is a classic illustration of the English saying, “too many cooks spoil the broth”

Unlike Singapore.

So why did Singapore’s MRT system go everywhere? — this is largely because of central, unified, careful planning of the whole public transport system, intricately connected to provide optimal transport solution to the people of Singapore.

By the way, I have stopped driving to work and instead take a bus and train to work — with the 3 Cs – Cool, cheap, convenient – TC Quah/QuoraDigest

6 Dec 2024 –  Gallivanting Vs Walking

Tue: annual CT-scan@NHCS – like this high ceiling for the outdoor eateries providing a nice a bright open spacious feeling. Good to still see the familiar LeisureParkKallang, 1stMall in SIN to offer an under-one-roof leisure(bowling still there) and one of the existing recognizable landmarks for me in this area. The view as you get out of the StadiumMRT station to KallangWaveMall  is still one of my favourites, another open spacious feeling, ie as long as no crowds!

CCL-Stadium, still my favourite MRT station – today’s joy ride from here to MarinaBay changing to TEL-MarineTerrace with the luxury of the feeling of being in a private train all to myself. ~15,000steps and happy to be able to put in those steps – if gallivanting or walking is considered a sport would probably get a medal for it – hahaha!

Read this from QuoraDigest /TC Quah on What Is Life Really Like In Singapore?

For many of us, “boringly predictable”

The same government, the same weather, you can go to work every day and come back and nothing unexpected happens. The buses and trains run on time, and almost never break down.

You have your lunch in the “hawker centers”. The choice is huge (Chinese, Malay, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Western ….), but you never get diarrhea.

You work comfortably in the office — no power failures

You go home and switch on your air-con — no power failures.

You switch on the taps, and you can drink the water straight from the taps — no tummy upsets or diarrheas.
