Singapore Swimming Club/SSC

30 May 2026 – Welcome Grandnephew Justin&Rebecca

Wed: welcome WinnieLL back for a visit and appreciations to Peggy for yummy lunch@SIN-SwimmingClub/SSC – last there was for NewYear’sEve2011 with cousin David from HI/USA, may he RIP.

Jan2012: now that Hawaii/USA has passed midnight, the whole world is in sync to the year of 2012. Being a wimp with crowds, the choice was to celebrate a quiet NewYear’sEve with cousin David & Leah from HI/USA who will be flying off this evening. Tkx to Mica&Mun for drinks&food@SIN-SwimmingClub where we found a quiet place. A bubbly toast in a hide-away to welcome 2012. Safe journeys to David & Leah and to all who are traveling this holiday season.

Nice to see orchids attached to the tree trunks and the orchid arrangements here.

Shared the ChickenRice,Laksa,Satay+Chendo,IceKachang for dessert between us 5ppl – good food but the service is another story…

Tkx to PT for lunch who is a member here and for the ride to&fro SSC.

HappyHariRayaHaji to those marking this last day of Ramadan – forgot that it is a public holiday here today and probably a feast going on tonight@GeylangSerai where I will certainly not be. A walk around the blocks 46&47MarineC for a fresh OJ admiring these yellow-flowering tree/Yellow-flame,Copperpod,YellowFlameTree,YellowPoinciana before these beautiful blooms fade&fall.

Gorgeous flowerets in the sunlight shining, Blossoms flaunting in the eye of day, Tremulous leaves, with soft and silver lining, Buds that open only to decay — Longfellow

Thu: pleasant morning rains for sewing with podcasts learning about fasting with the pro&cons+benefits&effects. The best of all medicines is resting and fasting.

Fasting is the single greatest natural healing therapy. It is nature’s ancient, universal ‘remedy’ for many problems. Animals instictively fast when ill – ElsonHaas

Fri: picked up some fruit&flowers@MT-market to see more construction outside the barricade area to later learn about the pipe leak causing flooding in MarineTerrace yesterday – glad that I was not at the market then. Pix downloaded

Welcome grandnephew Justin&Rebecca who are here for a wedding. Appreciations to Les&Ivy for another scrumptious dinner@Rochalie with BabyKai learning to turn on&off the battery lamp.

Sat: another cool wet morning to start the long weekend and school holidays. Tkx for this AyamBuahKeluak, chicken cooked with the nuts from a mangrove tree, my favourite Peranakan dish. The contents of the nut is dug out and sauteed with aromatics&seasonings, before it is stuffed back into the nuts and is one of the most labour-intensive Peranakan dishes to prepare.

Seeds of the pangium edule fruit these seeds have the rather infamous distinction of being poisonous as it contains hydrocyanic acid (hydrogen cyanide). Even the leaves&bark of the kepayang tree are believed to contain cyanide. For this reason, the seeds are traditionally buried in volcanic ash for 40days to help get rid of the cyanide. It is only then that they are sold for consumption but still need to be soaked for a few days and scrubbed meticulously to get rid the layer of ash. https://www.singaporeanmalaysianrecipes.com/ayam-buak-keluak/
