26 Oct 2026 – Improved Air Quality

Fri: prayers are out to those affected in Tibet’s earthquake and to those in the path of SuperTyphoonChampi– be safe – maps downloaded.

PSI-readings not at its worst early morning, windows&door open to air and to clean the air filters from the air-purifier-machines. Not as bad as expected but then all windows&doors has been closed since ~3weeks ago and will remain closed until healthier air quality. The air-filters do usually get a monthly clean –  AC also need to be cleaned&serviced soon.

PM2.5 pollutants are so small they evade the human body’s natural defence filters found in the nose and upper airway and penetrate deep into the smallest air sacs of the lungs (alveoli). This causes structural, inflammatory, and functional damage to the respiratory system. Symptoms include a chronic cough that lasts for weeks or months, shortness of breath and this is exactly what it feels like at present – pix downloaded.

Sat: a look back at SE-Asia’s strongest fire and haze episodes – 1982, 1997, 2015 and 2026, the fires in Indonesia were exacerbated by drier, hotter weather caused by the climate phenomenon. The current episode is the worst haze crisis to affect the region in over a decade and SIN was also ranked the most polluted city for a few days this month by Swiss-based air quality monitor IQAir – pix downloaded.

Sun: it is with much sadness to receive news this morning of the passing of a cherished cousin in Canada – thank you for many fond memories and for crossing paths in this life journey – he will never be forgotten and will be greatly missed.

Appreciations with tkx for late lunch@BabaChew’s – have been eager to visit this establishment since its opening, and pleased with the quality of the FusionPeranakanCuisine here. Quite an advantage to avoid the congestion typically experienced during peak lunch hours.

Good value in a pleasant setting with a wonderful opportunity to savour delicious Nyonya food in Katong, enjoying the welcoming rains and celebrating life in loving memory of a dear cousin.

Mon: despite improved air quality the past few days compared to last week, stayed underground MRT-MT-Orchard to meet with Cynthia – only above ground for the 180stepsX2 from my door to MRT-MT-Exit2, otherwise undergound from ~10.30-14.30hrs. During off-peak periods when crowds are absent underground are the rare occasions when being underground for such an extended duration is possible for my sanity!

Much to catch up@Hawkers’St,TangsBasement/OrchardRd after a few years lapse before she heads back to Canada tomorrow. Appreciations with tkx for taking time to meet – enjoying her Rojak&Popiah while the Beef,Tendon,BeanSproutsSoup was nothing to write home about for my taste!
