4Sep 1978, second daughter born in the land of the midnight sun and northern lights far above the Arctic Circle in the town of Tromsø, Norway. This is where it is dark all winter and bright all summer. Wonders never cease but actually one of my favourite places in Norway where we lived for 5 years from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Getting sentimental with an adorable pix of May when she was the age her son Olai is now! Check out the resemblance… Happy 35th Birthday to May!

This was and still is actually the view from the house in Tromsø (Kvamstykket 4), where we used lived in. Except that the house was recently torn down!

Today Tromsø city is the seventh largest city in Norway by pop, 69,116. It is the largest city and the largest urban area in Northern Norway. Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the small island of Tromsøya in the county of Troms, 350 km 217mi north of the Arctic Circle. Substantial parts of the urban area are also situated on the mainland to the east, and on parts of Kvaløya—a large island to the west.

Tromsøya is connected to the mainland by the Tromsø Bridge and the Tromsøysund Tunnel, and to the island of Kvaløya by the Sandnessund Bridge. The city is warmer than most other places located on the same latitude, due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream.

5Sep 2011: the birth of youngest grandson Olai in Oslo, Norway. He soooo looks like his mom at the same age, just as adorable but with darker hair. Wish I could be there to see his face when he gets his gift from his parents. This would be the cake for him if I were in Norway now. Happy Happy 2nd Birthday to Olai.
